In the scenario of a child being bullied if the bully wants the child's lunch money then there is no way for the child to stop him on his own. If this principle is applied then wouldn't child just end up getting hurt and loosing their money? I guess what I'm trying to say is was this principle wrong?

There are somethings that should just be let go. But lets say some guy tries to beat me up and rape me."Turn the other cheek" is totally out of the question in that situation.

The following is a quote from an unspecified Biblical reference work showing that Jesus was not talking about assaults!

Quote: "However, I say to you: Do not resist him that is wicked; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other also to him.” (Mt 5:38, 39) Here Jesus was not teaching pacifism or denying the right of self-defense from bodily harm, but he was teaching that a Christian does not need to pay back blow for blow, retaliating, taking vengeance. He was inculcating the principle of avoiding quarrels by not replying or reacting in kind. A slap on the cheek is not intended to injure physically but only to insult or to provoke into a fight. Jesus did not say that if someone strikes a Christian on the jaw, he should get up off the floor and hold the other side of his face for a target. What Jesus was saying was that if anyone tried to provoke a Christian into a fight or argument by either slapping him with an open hand or stinging him with insulting words, it would be wrong to retaliate. This is in harmony with the statements of the apostles, giving further emphasis to this principle.—Ro 12:17-21; 1Pe 3:9."

Hello....I'm Christian also, and to be 100% honest this is a real tough one.

There was nothing wrong with the principle, just us that have to try to live by it.

When we do follow one of Jesus principles we are rewarded greatly. We may not see it now in this life, but the reward will be great.
Our problem is following threw with it.

Guess the best we can do it try to be Christ like and keep praying & striving to follow Him.

The best way to do a "whole lot" for Jesus is by doing a little bit everyday.

God Bless & keep the Faith !

What if someone not only hits you on the cheek once, but continuously does so?! What if they continue to do this in the name of Christianity while making excuses to blame it on you when you can collect evidence of this, track down these individuals and you are even denied your fundamental democratic rights and freedoms because of this! Furthermore, these people commit all kinds of acts like the above that they also try to blame you for doing while they attempt to frame you for sins that they have committed themselves and your reputation is libelled and you are intimidated by sick people above the law!! Because of this I am a Satanist and this is a violation of my rights and freedoms under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the UN Human Rights Commission, and so on! It's pretty sick how people like you mention above are able to have such power as to hinder a person's life, talents, earning potential, and so on! It's really disgusting and inhumane! It is a Felony worse than torture and murder in the name of the so called church!
This kind of biased selective behaviour is beyond "An Eye For an Eye"!

Jesus came and preached a radical new gospel of love.

In the old days, it was once radical to take an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth, as most who came before would just as soon kill someone for such an offense.

When Jesus came, he replaced the complicated, but soon to be obsolete system of old laws, with two simple commands:

Love God.

Love your neighbor.

No more eye for eye, tooth for tooth.

Turn the other cheek, and leave it to God to exact vengeance for you, in his own way, and in his own time.

Christians now had more important things to do, like preaching the gospel, converting souls to Christ, and baptizing.

The new "economy" of salvation is built on love, not violence. And it works, if properly done.

A slap is not like a hit with the fist. It is more like a push or a shove. A person may slap us to pick a fight. He wants us to get angry. And if we get angry and we push or shove back, what happens?— We will probably get into a fight.

But Jesus did not want his followers to get into fights. So he said that if someone slaps us, we should not slap him back. We should not become angry and get into a fight. If we do, we show that we are no better than the one who started the fight.

If trouble starts, what do you think is the best thing to do?— It is to walk away. The other person may push or shove you a few more times. But that will probably be the end of it. When you walk away, it does not mean that you are weak. It means that you are strong for what is right.

But what if you let yourself get into a fight and you win? What could happen then?— The one you beat up could come back with some friends. They might even hurt you with a big stick or a knife. So, can you see now why Jesus did not want us to get into fights?—

I think the child should tell the teacher. Actually, it's a good question. Honestly, I would tell my kid to defend himself. God's ways are not our ways. I wonder how the world would work if Christians really would apply this principle. It might be a better place.

Jesus isn't saying "Don't defend yourself." He said to love your enemies, so if one is trying to rile you up or something, don't fight unless he's going to fight. If you have to defend yourself or anyone else, or stop someone, then by all means let loose the punches, just not in revenge. Remember Jesus turned the money changers out of His Father's house, so fighting for justice/safety is alright.

If the bully wants you lunch, give it to him. Next day, prepare one for him and give it to him with his name on it together with a card that says "I specially made this lunch for you with the love of Jesus".

NOW...do you think the bully will want to beat your snots out? Or do you think he will love you?

The bible is never wrong. If you love someone, that person will start retrospecting sooner or later. If he/she never does, don't worry, you will get your reward.

Trust in Christ.

My understanding is that a SLAP is what you turn the other cheek to, not a HIT. The idea there is that if someone tries to provoke you, let them try. If someone socked you, how else can you demonstrate your respect for your body as the temple of God's spirit without putting a stop to it (run if you can, otherwise, bring 'em down).
