Actually it is the birth place or the proving ground for most modern inventions and things we now take for granted.

You can name just about anything and something in it was birthed in the forge of war or conflict. the original applications were to help fight/win wars but soon it would grow in to civilian use.

Plastics, computers, jet engines, modern medicines, nylon, advanced electronics, light weight polymers and food preservation techniques. all of these things and more, were primarily created for military applications, specifically to fill a need in War. Improvements happened all the time to these items as well, by the end of ww2 modern medicine had made leaps and bounds in progress, the jet engine had been born at the start of the war and by the end it was far more advanced than any engine had been in nearly 20 years.

People look at the Human cost of war, which is important, but if you look deeper, look under the surface you will find that War has been a much a boon to the modern world as it has been it's Nemesis.

Yes there are plenty of advancements that were not war related, but at some point in history it was thrown in to the fire and when it was pulled out, it probably came out better.

What is war good for?

Human advancement.

Looks like everyting has been mentioned by the others already. Let me look at this way. We had civil wars, we had world wars, we have gang wars, we have war against drugs, we have war against waste, etc. We take a pick on the bigger WWII -- Germany and Japan vs. the US and its allies -- ended 1944-45. That war was waged by Germany to 'create a perfect breed of Germans' a Third Reich (because he hates Jews who have everything) and Japan to expand its territory in Asia Pacific Sphere because it can't survive as a nation with limited land 90% volcanic.

If that war was not opposed, there will not be a Jew living right now and the independent countries in Asia Pacific is a single occupied territory. It could have been more if Germany and Japan were not defeated.

War has its purpose for both the aggressor and the aggrieved. That purpose may be good and may be bereft of reason. Both however, are convinced of the reason to go to war. History is the final judge. For Germany and Japan, history judged them wrong because all the SS Lieutenants up became war criminals and were haunted by Mosad. Japan is now payring reparations. For the US and its allies history judged them kindly because they were war heroes in the eyes of the world.

I was down with us and our intentions when we first went to Iraq. Now, I feel we should just defend and fight when someone is directly attacking us. So unless Canada, Mexico, or Central America get nukes and threaten us in some way, we should not attack. I do believe we should finish what we started in Iraq if that is at all possible. I don't want all the soldiers that died to be in vain.

Uhhh....Killing the people who want to destroy the very fabric of our society? Protecting our Nation from harm? Helping our allies maintain their freedom? Insuring the future of our loved ones?

I can keep going and going....but somehow, I don't think you want to know why war is necessary. Unless you really want to be speaking German, Russian, Japanese, or soon, some form of middle eastern dialect.

Good for the companies selling arms and weapons. Good for the companies who get lucrative contracts in rebuilding cities destroyed by war.
