i'm buying a sony bravia 46-inch lcd tv and will be mounting it above my fireplace. the fireplace will be covered in beadboard.

my question is, what do i need to tell my contractor to do to set up for this installation? does he need to mount a series of 2x4's so that there is a sufficient base so that it is securely mounted?

if you have any insight, please let me know!

thanks in advance...

I would get the wall mount and give it to your contractor, he should be smart enough to figure it out.

As a Satellite installer, don't make the mistake of running a single coax cable to your new LCD television.

I would suggest running a nice size conduit atleast 1.5-2 inches from behind the television to where your going to have your equipment rack so you can easily fish an DVI or an HDMI cable from your satellite or cable box to your television.

I can't tell you how many customers run 1 coaxial cable and wonder why the picture looks like garbage with the picture running off analog channel 3.

As a satellite installer it costs a couple hundred dollars to fish a line for a flat screen television (We do not work for FREE). You have the walls open, run the correct cable now or if you don't know leave a nice big conduit to fish the correct cables later.

You and everyone else who wants to mount their flat screen tv above their fireplace should really reconsider this move. Heat kills electronic components and you are going to mount this very expensive television above a heat generating source. It may sound like an ideal place for it but it's not.

The mounting hardware for your TV requires that you have it mounted on a stud ..make sure you have a stud in the right place to mount the TV..
