I have been hit twice by two females because they were chatting on their cellphones. Or, maybe we should just ban females from driving.

defensive driving has nothing to do with it if you are stopped at a traffic signal.

I think you should make it a very high ticket to get in an accident while talking on the cell phone, like $5000

Well, women do chat more on cell phones it seems. I think that new drivers should not be allowed to talk on cellphones, be they male or female. A new driver has to focus on developing skills and gaining experience.Talking on a cell phone causes distraction and takes your attention away from operating a vehicle.
Also, your fingers may be pressing numbers and buttons, or you may be "text messaging", which causes your steering to be off-balance.
If you get into a detailed conversation for any length of time, this will distract you even further. Try watching your favorite television program and writing a letter or talking on the phone at the same time. You will lose details of both.
Yes, I feel that cellphone use should be banned when operating a vehicle.

Yes, I do. In fact, the use of cellphones is technically illegal in most states but the law is not enforced because people make a profit from cellphone use (and the accidents they cause). The violation could fall under Careless Driving as it takes away from your ability to operate a vehicle safely, just like driving with no hands on the wheel, driving with headphones on, flipping through your CD collection, shaving, applying makeup, etc.

Your driver's license is a legal document that states you have proven you posess a minimum ability to operate a 2-ton lethal weapon and agree to follow the traffic laws set forth in the state the license is issued. Technically, ANY failure to do so is a breach of that legal contract on your part.

It's not just females, either.

Definitely. Our car insurance rates are high enough as it is; it's not that hard to hang up and drive!

I certainly don't think women should be banned from driving, but in addition to refraining from cell phone use while driving, put on makeup BEFORE you get behind the wheel! Nothing irritates me more than a woman swerving on the road like a drunk driver while applying mascara!

In the Philippines, use of cellphones while driving is banned. But then again, it is the individual's responsibility to pay undivided attention while driving. After all, it is not just another person's life or property which are stake - it could be his own!

Ban bad drivers . Phones don't kill people ; people do .
That's like the drive-by media reporting all the SUV's out there killing people , like they had minds of their own on a rampage .
There comes a time when individual responsibility has to be accepted .
And what ever happened to defensive driving ?

Or maybe we should ban men from complaining about female drivers, considering men account for 64% of all accidents.

If you look at accident statistics you will find that people using a mobile phone while driving have a much higher accident rate than people not using them. It's even worse if they are sending text messages.
