I'm not sure if school buses use CB (Citizen Band) radios or what, but it comes down to which radio band they are using.

Channel 1 ? I wonder if they're not just using multi-channel walkie-talkies? You might as well just use a scanner if all you want to do is listen

channel one doesnt help you, unless they use a CB radio because you can select frequencies to program to different channels. but i would guess that they use a ham radio which can get pretty pricey, like up around 1000 dollars. but you can get a scanner which are around 200. there is no way to talk on them, but if you get a scanner you can definetly pick up a school bus drivers conversation, and you can pick up more interesting things as well like police firefighters etc.

there are generally specific ranges published that they could use but if they are coded you might not get them however the chances are good if you get the frequency guides and the equipment you will be able to hear them . ask at radio shack or the FCC.
