Well I know that my friends are worried about me, if that and when that happens to me. So I would suggest take her out away from animal and keep her mind off it and just be there for her go out and rent movies maybe comedy or do something silly that you haven't done in forever. or go pick up some take out, ice cream and any other favorite things that you friend might like

when my dog passed away a few years ago i was a wreck and to make it harder, my best friend lived in a completely different state. so to comfort me, she sent me a stuffed animal, a puppy actually. it was so cute and just let me know shes there and cares about me and it was a sweet gesture.

some people think getting her a new dog or animal helps but really that only works if she hasn't had a pet for at least a month on her own. just stay with her and dont mention the dog she will mention it on her own

just be there for her tell her if she needs you night or day that you will be there for her. and talk about her little dog as others mightn't as they will be frightened of upsetting her but she has to cry and grieve for the dog she loved

Send her a sympathy card and some flowers and let her know that you're there for her.
