im using the windows xp repair install to fix a problem im having with windows .The install seems to be going well until it gets to windows installation and the timer says there are approximately 34 mins remaining. The problem happens at the same precise place every attempt the computer freezes and there is nothing i seem to be able to do but turn off the power supply. There is no error code or signal, when i restart the computer there are no messages
and windows repair install restarts and tries again.
Removing the CD prior to installation causes the program to demand for the CD or quit the application. When i quit it reboots the computer and tries again. Please help!

This happened to me! Take out all the stuff that wasn't in it when you bought/made it. Then restart.

How long have you let the disk run, the problem with the timers are they aren't very accurate doe to there being so many different combinations of systems out there.
I would say let it run and if after 24 hours and it still hasn't installed then the disk is bad.
It might be better to get the full version of XP and doing a reformat instead.

Your install CD may have a scratch on it so that it is unreadable. Make sure the CD is clean.
.
Your hard drive may have bad sectors on it that a quick format wont mark as bad. Do a full format.

you can instal a new copy of XP over itself without formatting anything and then you wont lose any of your files or programs, and it will fix any problems with XP that you are having. to do this just tell it to install windows to the same general location and tell it to overwrite all files there, do not do any formatting on the HD or you will lose all files and programs.
