I've talked in my sleep for a while now(probably a few years). I don't enjoy this, as I usually ramble on for quite a while about random things(I've had a friend tell me that once I was talking about a rollercoaster at a fair months after the state fair). My parents have learned to listen to what I speak about, and they attempt to read in-between the lines. This worries me deeply. I also notice always wake up in a different position than what I went to sleep in. I have no reconcilliation of talking or walking in my sleep. Yet, quite recently, I woke up with a cramp in my leg, and I have awakened to bruises(though I'm not sure if I had gotten them the day before.). As I stated before, I hate talking and possibly walking in my sleep. Walking in my sleep could become potentially dangerous. I would like to know some methods to stop sleep walking and sleep talking.

I wouldn't worry too much about sleepwalking. If you were walking in your sleep, then you'd probably have noticed things knocked off of countertops or kicked around the room. People can sleep restlessly during the night, so waking up in a different position doesn't mean that you're sleepwalking.

As for talking in your sleep, I really don't know of any way around that without taking medications to make you sleep deeper. Sleeptalking occurs during REM sleep, which is the lightest form of sleep that you have. Dreams are your mind's defense against waking up due to some minor noise like a car backfiring or your cat meowing at the foot of your bed. If you sleep deeper, then you won't talk in your sleep.

If you're really that worried about what you might be saying, then buy a gag and wear it to bed. You could probably tell your parents that it was a "gag" gift from a friend.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

As a former sleepwalker...(I used to wake up to dirt on my bare feet and scratches and cuts from walking oblivious to my lack of shoes) I would have to say that there are simple things to stopping the threat and danger of sleepwalking. Multiple locks on doors sometimes will help as the only times I actually left the house was during the summer when there was only the screen door. As to the talking...that is perfectly normal and there isn't much a guy or girl can do short of duct tape well placed on the lips. Seems that would hurt though.

As goofy as this sounds, try a loose fitting small animal collar to your wrist anchored to something sturdy for the sleep walking. For the talking part, if possible try playing some meditation type music during your sleep time & sometimes the nasal strips like Breath Rite open the airway and relaxes you.

You need to see a Dr, a sleep specialist...People usually outgrow things like this, but if they don't, it's a problem best taken care of by a professional.....sleeping pills might help.
( I used to walk in my sleep, but outgrew it about 17...my girlfriend SANG in her sleep...I don't know if she every outgrew it. (we haven't spoken for many yrs.))
Try OTC Benadryl (it makes some people sleepy and is pretty much harmless.)
