There were 3 sister ducks swimming in the pond, 1 behind the other in a line.

The 1st duck looks behind herself and says, "I see another duck behind me!"

The 2nd duck looks behind herself and says, "I also see a duck behind me!"

The 3rd duck looks behind herself and says, "I see a duck behind me too!"

If there were only 3 ducks swimming in the pond in a straight line, then how did the 3rd duck see a duck behind her as well?

**Common answers are "she saw her reflection" and "they were swimming in a circle", but these are not the answers. See if you can guess the true answer! Upon voting time, I'll post the true answer!

Just because you said "There are 3 sister ducks swimming in a pond" doesn't mean that there couldn't have been other ducks in the pond. You didn't say only 3. So, to answer your riddle, there was simply another duck behind the 3rd one...

You said there were 3 sisters, but you did not specify that they were the ONLY ducks in the pond. Maybe there was a brother or some other duck behind the third one.

There was a fourth duck on the bank behind the other ducks therefore it wasn't swimming.
OR
There was a duck on the back of the third duck
OR
the third duck was swimming in the opposite direction.

OK, lets try this one. Well first of all it did not say that there were ONLY 3 ducks swimming in the pond. It said "There were 3 "sister" ducks swimming in the pond" It did not say they were the only ones. There could have been 3 brother ducks or less or more. Did not say anything about male ducks. So thats my guess. That there were male ducks chasing the pretty sisters around the pond.

I see no mention of the direction in which they are facing. If the third duck is last in line but facing in the opposite direction of the other two, then:
Duck #1 sees duck #2 behind her.
Duck #2 sees duck #3 behind her. (albeit a rear view)
Duck #3 sees duck #2 behind her as she is facing the other way.

Am I right?
