He takes all objects from straws, to forks, and takes his two fingers to spin them. He'll sit on the floor and do this for 10 minutes uninterupted. He's up to date as far a developing mentally with words, and actions, I'm just worried that it might be some form of autisum because my nephew is autistic and shows repetitive behavior all the time. Does anyone's child do things repetively?

He could just be learning a new skill which is fascinating to him....but you're right to keep your guard up...especially with Autism in the family. If he persists over the next few weeks or it interferes with his normal activities...you might want to call the doctor. Particularly with Aspergers or high functioning autism, language development may not be delayed. Just keep watching....since you have an autistic nephew...you know what to look for. If your son does happen to have autism, it's better to find out as soon as possible.

My son does this,he's not autistic. He's 3 now and has been doing this since he was at least 2. I was always worried about it also, but my son is just a thoughtful and quiet child. If this is all that he is doing, then enjoy the 10 minutes.

It is good sign that he is developing normally and has words. Spinning things is a sign of Autism, but most kids with Autism are way behind in language skills. It wouldn't hurt to ask your pediatrician about your concern. Good luck

Sounds like he does this to relieve tension. I doubt he is autistic if he is up to par with other children his age. If you feel that it gets to be more of an issue, talk to your family doctor at his next check-up.

He is probably just practicing his new-found motor skill. If you are truly concerned, however, it never hurts to seek a professional's opinion. Even if it's just to ease your own mind.
