Is the KJV translation 1 Timothy 6:10a a poor translation of the original language, because Adam and Eve's, Cain's & Lucifer's sin seemed to have nothing to do with money. Not to mention many sexual sins have nothing to do with money (even though having money may aid in them.)

1 Timothy 6:10a
For the love of money is the root of all evil

DID ANYONE ACTUALLY READ THE QUESTIONS? I know how greedy and money hungry the world is but that is not what i was reffering to. Is anyone familiar with Greek or Hebrew? I know other translations are different but i'm refering to the KJV.

I think the key to this one is the scriptures which state that man cannot have two masters, Mathew 6:24. If you are replacing your focus on serving God with any other item, regardless of what it might be. You have sinned.

I think that that could also be translated mammon( a Greek prosperity god i believe) representing worldly goods. Also its hard to define money being money has equivalent values in service and pleasures. Ex $60 to get into six flags. Mix that with human desire for power and gratification you have a pro money monetary system. Lucifer wanted to have power, and Cain wanted gratification. Adam and Eve isn't necessarily evil, because sin is not always equal to evil, just a short coming.

Money is very worldly. You can't take it with you when you go. It all stays here. But faith in Jesus will get you to heaven. No matter rich or poor, if you believe you can go to heaven. A lot of people think that they can buy their way into heaven. That can't happen. And people idolize it. They are out to make an extra buck that they don't need instead of being home with their families where as poor people a lot of times have stronger faith in the lord because money is something that they are lucky to get. I hope this helps. There are good rich people too.

Yes, I think that is a poor translation. Some people think the KJV is the last word in Bible translation, but should remember that it was the new (the latest) version when it was translated. Another translation could make it clearer. I like KJV, but find that other translations clear up confusion on issues such as this one.

In the old testiment, the Shema a sacred hebrew prayer states in proper transaltion that a human should not love money over other humans. THis comes from the old testiment also. So the idea is that if one loves money over others, then he will not due good deeds. Money and love of money causes people to do selfish things not make the world better. So I would say that is what it means.

Money has always been a way of enslaving other people... That is why many religions- Muslim for one, do not permit usury (lending money for interest). Some rich person will have tons of money and loan it out and live off the backs of others by collecting interest from them. If it weren't for usury the price of a home would be about 1/4 or less of what it is now.

9 However, those who are determined to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and many senseless and hurtful desires, which plunge men into destruction and ruin. 10 For the love of money is a root of all sorts of injurious things, and by reaching out for this love some have been led astray from the faith and have stabbed themselves all over with many pains.

perhaps this is an easier translation to understand
i only use the kjv as a comparison bible never to study from to many errors from original languages.

i thought you wanted a more correct translation to help you understand 1 Tim 6:10

The "Love" is referring to idolatry. You can gather wealth, but to live for it or to live your life in all pursuits of it is the evil.

Life by the Spirit
16So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Actually isn't the verse is, the love of money is the root of all manners of evil? This means that people who worship money can get themselves into all kinds of evil things. I don't understand why that is confusing. Look around the world and see what greed has done.

Money can produce greed and cause many problems if not in check. Look at so many people who came into large sums of money by lottery winnings or inheritance and it ultimaely led to bankruptcy, divorce and even suicide in some cases. Its no sin to have money...its no sin to have lots of money. Its only a problem in our life if we let it control us and we become money whoremongers.
When we begin to love money and making money more than we love ourselves and those around us then we have a problem Houston!!!
