You should pay more attention to Bob Barker. He knows.

well, you can start with akc and the other suggestions you have been given. you can also call boarding, grooming, training facilities. some have breeder referral lists. you can also just ask people you might see with a breed, what breeder they got them from. Dog Fancy magazine has lots of breeders listed in the back of their magazines.
sometimes you just luck out when you call these breeders. One of my clients has 2 PBGV's. She found some breeders #'s and started calling. She ended up finding, by accident, the breeder who was currently at an AKC dog show, and winning a tilte. This was about 10 yrs ago, but the point I'm making is just explore every avenue you have.
Anyway, Murphy, my client's PBGV, is still doing well, and he has a new little brother, a PBGV also, named Charlie. He came from a different breeder. but I'm not sure how she found that one. I know she belongs to some club or organization for this breed. I would just surf the net and make a lot of phone calls to every lead I could.

I checked your questions asked and there were no previous questions about breeders listed so I do not understand what the hostility is about but this question does not mention what breed you are looking for. Maybe you should mention what breed you are looking for if you want an answer?
If you are looking for a purebred go to akc.org and look for the parent club of the particular breed you are interested in and then contact the parent club for breeders in your area.
If you are looking for mixed or designer dogs the only thing I am able to tell you is to go to a rescue or shelter because I personally do not think people should pay hundreds of dollars for a mixed breed dog so other then what I mentioned I can not help you.
This is the best I can give you cause no info was provided.

And just who are you talking to? I've been to the shelters yes, and I cried my eyes out over the dogs there. I do nearly every day. I am planning on fostering dogs. People are a subject of lesser concern to me. I couldn't care less that there are people starving in Africa. Sorry that sounds cold but honestly when my dogs (dogs in my country not MY dogs) are forced to go to bed tired and hungry I don't have time for people. People stink, I loath them. At any rate if you want a good breeder go to a dog show. You can find reputable breeders there 90% of the time and they will be better equipped to judge if they want a puppy in your home or not. I can't pass too much judgment on you from what you said other than like me you like to rant! lol Best of luck and remember to make certain the breeder has had the dogs health checked for whatever problems the breed your looking at is susceptible to. And if you have a bad feeling about the breeder GET OUT!! Trust your feelings when it comes to decisions and don't always go with your heart. Let the breeder help you choose a puppy, don't always go for the one rolling the others over or the one hiding in the back.

I'm not sure if I answered this before or not - in my opinion the best place to find a breeder of a particular breed is through the web site of the breed club or organization. You also may get a chance to talk to people who know the breed and the breeders and learn about what the pluses and minuses are of many of the breeders programs. There is a wonderful message board site (www.cbrs4me.com) for my favorite breed - Chesapeake Bay Retriever - I haven't seen anything quite like it for other breeds but I am sure there is something around if you look hard enough.

Hi, please try to ignore the rude answers you receive from other people and focus on the ones that try to help you.

You may locate breeders by using the AKC breeder referral program. Use the link below and locate your breed and click on the referral person's name to get their e-mail. They will know of breeder in your area and be able to answer question concerning their breed of expertise. Most are affiliated with their breed own club and are dedicated to preserving the quality and integrity of the breed.
If you are looking for one of the new mixed breeds that are popular like a snorkie or a labradoodle then you must use Yahoo Search or Google the name and try to locate a breeder.
I do not judge why people do things I just try to find them the info they need to find what they need.

My goodness what a lot of ranting. It doesn't take an Einstein to figure out if you want breeder information to log onto the net and type in Dog Breeders. Since you obviously have an repulsion to getting other peoples opinions this is what you should have done. And that's my opinion, so there!!!!

Well.....a breeder of WHAT? There are no other breeder questions listed under your name.

You can find breeders at dog shows, or look at the national breed club website. It would really help if you said what BREED!

you can go to gotpetsonline.com i dont think that they are breeders but there are people that are selling their animals.. try googling the breed and see what comes up.. like boston terrier breeders.. i dont know..
sorry for everyones negative opinion on you wanting to buy a freaking dog.. animal shelters are great but if someone doesnt buy them from the breeder where do you all think that those dogs are going to go to (a shelter) drrr
people are idiots and every one has an opinion... but if you didnt ask thier opinion on getting a dog and from where then it shouldnt have been thier business to tell you where to get one from
good luck in finding a friend :D

I'm a bit confused. I guess maybe you have another question that I haven't read, but I don't see the question here.
One great place to start the search for a breeder is the AKC.
