An Obituary is an Announcement of the Passing(Death) of a person, with a summarization(overview) of that persons life. The information used in the summarization usually refers to living relatives,acc-
omplishments during the persons life, hobbies, careers, and finally,
arrangements for internment(Burial) by surviving family members.
As for a format,i would use the biographical format, keeping it brief, and concise.(Informative but short) As a footnote, the Obituary is not a tool to ridicule or demean the person who has died, since that person wont be reading it.His/Her Family and Friends will, though, and their loss should be respected.

An obituary is a notice of the death of a person, usually published in a newspaper, written or commissioned by the newspaper, and usually including a short biography. It is similar to a funeral notice, which is also published on the obituary page. A funeral notice is a paid advertisement written by family members, placed in the newspaper by the funeral home.Formal Obituaries

The content of formal obituaries varies, but (at least in North American newspapers) usually follows a certain format:

* The subject's name, age, birth date, date of death, and place of death.
* The reason for the subject's notability, normally in some detail.
* The cause of death, if given.
* At some newspapers (especially the New York Times), the name of the person who advised the newspaper of the death.
* Some family information, generally less than in a paid death notice unless members of the family were involved in the reason for the subject's notability.
* Rarely, information about the funeral and burial.

I typed this once and lost it. An obit. is a notice of death. You write it in this order, name of person, where lived, date of death, where died, born, date and parents, brief write up including what church attended, where worked, and volunteer work, Married on what date and to whom, name the mate if still living, name of children, sisters, brothers, then any that proceeded the person, parents, mate, children, sisters, brothers, then the place and time for visitation, place and time of funeral, minister that is holding the funeral, where buried and in lew of flowers, those who wish may make a donation to a charity of donors choice. There, I think I got it all again.

You give the name of the person who died and their birthdate, their parents name , such as the persons name was born maiden name to such & such parents-------------------- on this date in city-------------------------..Then you say to whom they married and name----------------.and date &year-----------------...Then you start telling what they did for a living, where they worked ,what cities.......their interests---their hobbies....anything they were noted for such as being a Good cook (example)and note some nice things people say about him/her...name their children and spouses, and where they live.after naming the children you can name the grandchildren only, then just put the number for great grandchildren...Then tell who they will be leaving behind after their death......it is just basically a short decription of their life.....Good luck and hope this helps...This can be published in the paper and also be read at the funeral service if desired.
