Although Microsoft Office is not free, you can download a 60-day trial from this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/office
Toward the bottom of the page there is a link to download the trial.
If you decide to purchase it, you may qualify for the Home/Student edition if you or someone in your household is a full time student or educator.

ok, here is one possible solution. go to www.dabs.com, buy an oem 3 pack of MSworks 8.5 (i think is the version) you buy a cheap mouse with the package.
now all that wil come to around about £25 or less to buy and have delivered.
here is the beauty.
you can SELL on the mouse (a couple of £ more than it cost you)and the TWO copies of works that you do not need via your local paper for £15 each or more. then you not only get the copy of msword and a spreadsheet program, but you make money in the process. Done right you can be up at least £10 on the deal. i know it is not much, but when your broke every £ counts.
I nearly forgot the best bit. if you have works on your system you are legaly entitled to the upgrade version of ms office when you can afford the full version saving you even more money. say a copy of works costs £10 the reabate offered by microsoft between full versions and upgrades varies but never less than a saving of £50 so you save £40 total per copy (if my maths is correct)
if that is not for you, then try searching word processors and spreadsheets on http://www.softpedia.com make sure to filter by freeware in your search to narrow your choices.

You need to purchase a Microsoft Office Pro 2003. Mine came within a CD format, and you can purchase it from Staples, PC World etc at around £370 (amazon).
You could ask around, through friends, colleagues, and family to see if you could upload the CD onto your PC (free of charge!)
You could also look on eBay, to see if any suit your budget on their!
Good Luck
