Not sure about Limewire, but you most certainly CANNOT assume that all program will work with Vista. Its likely many software companies will be releasing new versions for Vista compatibility.

they should though vista is supposed to be more secure, so limewire may not perform as it does in XP.
remebering that while the software is legal the general reason for it's use is not always strictly legal.
also you will need a damn good malware defense suite. symantec aka norton and mcaffee were not with vista from the start so they and other defence programs are playing catch up.
the only effective defence suite for VISTA is to get to http://www.trendmicro.com and download the security suite: "pc-cillin internet security 2007" available for a 30day free trial and then about £40 for a years worth of updates which may sound a lot of money, but the updates are often release hourly and the suite does so much more than norton AV or norton internet security and is better than the mcaffeee package as well.
spybot, spywareblaster all installed malware in the system registry before the security suite was installed.
you boost the effectiveness of your defense suite with lavasoft adaware and you keep your registry clean and running at peak efficiency using registry clean expert from http://registry-clean.net
lavasoft = http://www.lavasoft.com
but to sum up in general if it runs on XP then it should run on VISTA. as for your hardware you will need to locate VISTA drivers for your hardware from the manufacturer of your components or system.
I hope that helps.
