It is possible to get cancer from materials used in old ceilings, in the olden days they didn't know these things caused cancer. Most likely it would be lung cancer and if the 6 teachers got it very recently, it's very doubtful it would be from the ceiling because the materials would have just been disturbed and floating in the air, that's too soon for cancer to develop. Cancer is one of the biggest conditions in the world, so with the percentages being very high, that's probably why they got it. Also, if they are friends, they might live the same sort of lifestyle, smoking, poor diet etc. Alot of factors contribute to cancer, even genetically prone to it.
I wouldn't worry about your health because of the ceiling, it's good they put a new one in because more than likely the old one had unhealthy stuff in it, plus it might have leaked causing mold in the air.

It is VERY unlikely that anything they put in a new ceiling (or anything else really) would cause cancer so quickly, so although I have no idea what they put in the ceiling and what the construction may have exposed people to (hopefully nothing harmful if they did it well and carefully, I would say that if the new roof and the 6 cases of cancer happened in close temporal proximity, it's a coincidence (and even more so if they're not all exactly the same type of cancer), these things happen sometimes.

Do all six teachers have the identical cancer? If they do than that would indicate a cancer cluster and people should look for the cause. However, if all the teachers have a different type of cancer . . than it is probably unrelated. Even in families . . unless each person has the same cancer than the chances are that the cancers are unrelated. I just asked a similar question from my sons oncologist about the incidence of cancer. She said the cancers would need to be the same or same type of cancer to be considered suspicious.

Maybe from the old ceiling .
I truly doubt that they would have cancer from a new ceiling so quickly.
Best best is to check w/the school board as to why the ceiling was replaced & what the old & new is made of.

The ceiling they had before could have had asbestos in it, but the new ceiling would be most likely brand new and up to code (not infested with asbestos).
There is a certain type of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos, it is called Mesothelioma.
