"i just don't understand why people would choose to be gay. most people who are gay discover their own sexual orientation at the same time as normal children do, why would they at that age, decide to go against what the bible says and be gay? considering that there are serious religious AND sociological consequences for being homosexual, why would anyone tell themselves, at 11,12, 13 years old "well, i guess i'm gonna be gay"?"
Do you realize you practically answered your own question right there?
You see, the 11-13 range you've specified, is usually when we're beginning to notice the opposite sex as more than a creature with cooties, and see them as potential mates.
Now, suppose you're a young boy or girl struggling with the overwhelmingly difficult task of simply getting through middle and high school with your sanity and self-esteem intact, would you honestly make a conscious choice to be attracted to someone of the same sex? Or would you, instead, wonder what was wrong with you, because everyone around you is talking about their latest crush, on members of the OPPOSITE gender, while you're secretly pining away for the cutie who sits next to you in class, and unfortunately is packing the same equipment as you.
In general, it's not simply a teenage rebellion thing. Most people satisfy that little whim by piercing themselves in unusual places, or dying their hair some shade of the rainbow; things that will allow them to still be accepted by their peers as "cool". "Choosing to be gay" has, as you said "serious religious AND sociological consequences", and no one in their right mind would deliberately do that to themselves at such an already difficult age.

People don't 'choose' to be gay. Did you choose to be straight? Get real, junior. And it reflects badly on our society that people will assume there's something terrible about homosexuality just because "the Bible says so." Unless you can discover a rational reason *why* homosexuality is bad you have no business sticking your noses into other people's private behavior.
Even if it was a choice - so what?! How would that affect a person's behavior outside the bedroom, and as long as they are law-abiding, productive citizens, how would that give you witch-hunters the right to harass them?!
The Bible also says it's a sin to wear clothing of mixed fibers, so how come you religious nutters aren't screaming to persecute all of us who do that, too? Is it because you're being selective about which biblical laws you think are important - because you've been trained not to think but only follow orders like the good little Nazis you are?

well, first of all there are certain factors that affects them that makes them a gay.the main factor is the environment because, environment contains the family.Lots of characters and behaviors was influences by them.
when we are young we always follow what elderly people do thats why when it is bad, they told each other dont let the children see it because they might copy it.so when your father is smoking your mother will tell him to go outside not only because there is a possibility that you will copy him,but also it will give bad smell to the house(*wink*).
if you really want to know why a certain guy is a gay trace his childhood experiences.they may have a trauma or something that they dont want to remember so they hide it on their unconscious mind but when they are growing up, it shows.
like when their mother was a battered wife and they always see how their father beat their mother and they cant do anything about it because they are still young, being a gay when they grow up is their way of coping up and helping their mother by putting themselves in the place of their mother.
some of them is a battered child especially by their father so when they grow up they dont want to do the same thing to their children so they castrated themselves(not literal).and that makes them a gay.also the same thing happens when young boys are growing up with a gay people surrounding him. theres a big chance that he might end up one of them because those are the people surrounding him when he is starting to make his identity.
and besides whatever factors i have to explain why some guys wants to be gay rather than straight male,in the end, ITS THEIR CHOICE! neither you or i can do something about it. ^_^

Look into recent research into homosexuality and you might be suprised. Lesbians have larger inner-ear bones than straight women... more like males, really....
Another study my brother (gay) told me about was that a strangely disproportionate number of gay males have longer ring fingers than index fingers, I said "Hey! My ring finger is longer than my index finger, does that make me a gay male?!" The answer, "Well, you like boys, right?"
There are a lot of interesting little things like this. I personally don't see how anybody could CHOOSE a way of life that would subject them to the vileness and hatred that are shown to homosexuals, which is why, I do not believe for ONE MINUTE that ANYONE "chooses" to be gay.
Well, Yeah, I wanted my parents to hate me and throw me out of the house, and all my friends to stop talking to me, and I REALLY REALLY like it when people shout obscenities at me when I walk down the street.
Get real.

have you ever looked at this in a medical way? this may be a choice for some but I believe that some do not make this a choice. Saying that people choose to be gay would be like saying you chose to be tall/short.....
I feel blessed that I dont have to go through the hate these people have to go through.

I didn't choose to be gay but if it was a choice I would choose to be gay,
Homosexuality is a normal human variation like height or IQ (and we all know how they vary amongst normal people) sexual orientation can no more be chosen than height or IQ .
I have a sane loving family, and so does my partner, we have mainly straight friends who are totally accepting. The homophobic prejudice that is about is of little consequence ...beyond civil rights issues but we are slowly gaining legal and civil equality as is inevitable.
I have a good life so that's why I would choose to be gay if there was an option (there isn't), I am not religious and do not consider homosexuality sinful, if anyone thinks it's sinful then that is your problem to deal with for yourself it is not mine.

There are two sides of tracks, superiors and inferiors, low and high standards, poor and rich, opposite polarity, and so on .I will not be judgemental, for others, for life is a lesson for each of us. The homosexuals did not decides their feelings,it has something to do with their chromosomes. If they said, they are" gonna be gay, at an early age because they already felt it. The bible does not dictate to live your life,it teaches you to improve your life ,.on things that can be change.

Why do you think it's a choice? Have you really put any thought into this, or are you just spouting what you've been told? Have you ever been in love--in lust--with a girl, in a perfectly ordinary way? Well can't you imagine what it would be like to get those feelings for the same sex and not be able to act on them? I don't know why I'm wasting my time. You probably guess I'm gay. Well guess what, I'm not. But I also don't have my mind nailed shut by religion.

Well, they wouldn't. Just from a survival standpoint. Humans generally do not choose a life intentionally made more difficult. Which gives credence (as you have done, willingly or no) to the biological theory of homosexuality. You are born that way.
BTW, gay people are "normal", they just have a different sexuality than you and me. Get to know one or two and you will find this out.

I sense you asked this question with the intent of being controversial. Most people will answer with this: No one chooses to be gay. It is a sexual orientation just as being heterosexual is. You don't choose to like the opposite sex, you just do.
