Yup. Caught a 10 pound Mahi-mahi. My cousin oftens goes deep sea fishing and has caught a 20 pound yellowfin tuna as well as a 20 pound kingfish. Enjoy it immensely. Even on days when I do not catch anything. I just enjoy being out of the house and in the open sea. The peace and tranquility of the sea as well as its unpredictability and awesome power and rage. One minute it is so calm the the other minute it is raining will 1-2 meter swells.

I've been deep sea fishing a couple of times of the coasts of Washington and Oregon. Went bottom fishing and caught lots of seabass, rockfish, ling cod. One time a guy caught a 50 pound halibut and had to throw it back because halibut season had not started yet.(it opened 2 days later) The same guy also caught a ratfish, the ugliest fish I have ever seen, it had teeth like a rat. Twice when I went it was really rough out. We are talking like 12 foot swells. Good thing I don't get seasick. Then there was the time I went salmon fishing and didn't catch a single thing. The worst 100 bucks I ever spent in my life. As you can imagine I was pretty p*ssed.
My best "deep sea" catch though was when I was fishing for flounder from a pier about 20 feet from shore. I caught a 30 pound sand shark. It was a pretty tough fight on my 6 foot lightweight spinning rod with 12 pound test line. I got it in though, fun stuff.

Yes , off the central California coast. I first went 1959 and caught many large " rock fish", I don't recall their being a limit on the number a person could take. Last time I went was 2002 the limit was 10 fish, I think. The average size was much smaller than on my earlier trip's and many people weren't able to catch their limit.

While living in the Marshall Islands I went deep sea fishing many many times. The biggest fish I caught was a 60-lb yellowfin tuna. I was part of a fight with an (estimated) 400+ lb Pacific Blue Marlin, but it got away.
