Isn't it true that the defendant lost the case? Since that is true, it shows that Atheism is defended as a religion would be. Thus, Atheism in essence is a religion with many devote fallowers including humanists.

Yes, the defendant lost the case, he was fined $100 which was paid for him by a Chicago newspaper. The entire trial was an attempt by Dayton to get their town noticed, it worked, but not how they hoped.

I don't see how you draw your conclusion that the case makes Atheism a religion. The charge was teaching the theory of evolution, which was against the law in that state at the time.

John Scopes, a science teacher in Dayton, Tennessee, taught evolution in a science class about 1924, in contravention of a state law prohibiting it. He was charged with an offense, and the resulting trial became a media circus. The defense was led by noted criminal lawyer Clarence Darrow, and the prosecution by rabblerouser, religious fanatic, and sometime Democratic Presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan (best known nowadays as an advocate of monetary silver in the famous "cross of gold" speech). Unable because of procedural restrictions to mount any substantive defense, Darrow wound up examining Bryan, and made him look like a fool. Eventually, the prosecution prevailed, and Scopes was fined $100. Bryan died shortly after the trial concluded. As I recall, the fine was never paid. The events were made into a play and a movie, both called "Inherit the Wind", which is a must-see if you haven't. It would be bad logic to infer anything about either evolution or atheism from the proceedings. As for evolution, it has been established science for a century and is now a proven fact.

I think you are referring to the trial of John Scopes, a Tennessee High school teacher in 1925 who taught that humans and monkey's shared a common ancestor. I dont remember what the outcome was exactly but you can check it out at: archieves.cnn.com/scopesmonkeytrial I dont think this had anything concerning atheism as being a religion.

You obviously didn't see the movie Tennessee won the case and didn't allow evolution taught in their schools for years but the trial wasn't about Atheists the teacher on trial wasn't an Atheist his Attorney was but the trial was about teaching evolution. Great movie Spencer Tracy was the Atheists trial Attorney Clearance Darrow. He lost the case but it was a great movie Inherit the Wind. It was one of those movies made back when people had to act. None of this just blow everything up and call it a movie like today. Thank God they don't make them like that any more. BB Boop Oop A Doop!

That makes absolutely no sense.

Why are you so desperate to redefine the word 'religion' to include atheism?

That particular case ended with the defendant losing the case, but the conviction was set aside on appeal. Does that mean, according to your logic, that atheism is both a religion and not a religion?

Yes, the defendent, John Scopes, did lose the trial and I think he was fined $1, or something like that.

I agree that atheism should be considered a religious belief, but that does not mean that evolution is a religious belief, if that's where you're headed.

Many theists agree with the theory of evolution.

lol, fallowers. They have spell check. Know where cracker comes from? Next time you get degraded by this word make sure you point out that it came from the whip cracker. Just a little fact every racist black person should know. Racism is a horrible thing, specially when you know the facts just add up to you being just exactly what you hate.

I don't follow you logic (or lack thereof). Yes, the teacher who dared to teach science instead of mythology was found guilty. How does that prove that atheism is a religion??

Have a nice day.

Yo Einstein: The "Monkey Trial" was about evolution, NOT atheism.

Do some research before you make yourself look like a moron again.
