She started puking yesterday (Saturday) and it was food. Now she only heaves and gets what looks like spit to come up. She is laying around and I haven't seen her eat. I have only had her for a week, (I rescued her form a puppy mill), I have experience with small dogs and I know they nap alot when they are babies. I am very concerned. I was told she has been wormed 3 times and has had 3 vaccines(what kind, I have no clue).I am going to take her to the vet Monday but I would also like a few opinions from people with similar experiences. I am so worried.

Ok this may or may not be a serious problem.
First try the honey/ karo syrup/sugar water, use an eye dropper or straw to give it to her. Then get a bottle of Pepto Bismol and a small eye dropper- if you don't have one use a regular straw. Fill the dropper up to .25 ML or the straw (by using your finger to hold the liquid in the straw) up to 1/2 and inch (use a ruler if you want). Administer Pepto Bismol to the pup about every 4 or 5 hours.
Try to encourage her to drink water, vomiting is hard on the stomach and you don't want her to dry heave. If you gave her dry food- get some moist food and mash it into a paste then offer it to her. If she shows no signs of improvement in 2 hours after the Pepto Bismol then it may be something more serious.

I rescued an abused male Chihuahua and he got Parvo, it was a real mess that cost me over $2000 in treatment and followup. He had several issues over the 15 yrs that I had him but he pretty much lived a normal life and I lost him in June '06. So the disease and treatment does not shorten their lives if treated properly.

If it is ParvoVirus she will throw up a bright almost flourescent vomit that stinks very bad. She will have a dark or bloody diarrhea that will also stink very bad. It comes on fast so get her to a vet now if you see these symptoms. This is almost always a fatal disease leading to death and can be very expensive if treated. Health issues will arise if a dog survives Parvo after treatment because of the damage internally.
If it is Hypoglycemic or low blood sugar, she will go downhill fast if not treated. She could go into a sugar coma and little can be done to help her. It can be treated successfully the same way as humans and I am not sure about the vet costs. The sugar trick can be very helpful in buying yourself some time to get her to the vet.
If she ate something and has a blockage she will show visible signs of discomfort after she eats or drinks, followed by vomiting it back up. Sometimes the dog will yelp in pain sometimes not. This can lead to death because the dog cannot relieve herself and toxins will build up in the organs.
When you rub her stomach area does she groan or move away? If so it may only be an upset tummy or irritable bowels and the Pepto Bismol will ease it. This is sometimes a common problem with puppy mill dogs and is not expensive to treat.
If you put her on a different brand of dogfood than what she was eating, this could also be a possible problem. A week is all it would take for a different food to wreak havok on her system. I know you rescued her so I would say to get a natural, good quality food to help balance her system out. Always give fresh water even if you change it 3-4 times a day.
There are other problems that could be the source of her problem but these are the more common ones.
Only a vet can properly diagnose her problem and correct it but some assistance treatments like Pepto and Karo Syrup can be a great item to keep in your Doggy First Aid Kit.
Bless you for saving her from a life of non-stop breeding and I hope you will strongly consider having her spayed.
Puppy Mill dogs serve no purpose of preserving the breed and are often inbred with littermates and parents with total disregard to the health problems it causes. Its all about making money for these people.
I hope it is only a minor problem and you can continue to love this wonderful little girl.
Good luck and let us know how she is doing!!

She may be hypoglycemic(low blood sugar). Give her some honey or karo syrup. If you don't have either, give her some sugar water. Also she should not have had 3 vaccines already if she is 10 weeks old, but if she came from a puppy mill, they probably lied about the vaccines. She could be really sick. You need to get some type of sugar in her NOW! Or she will probably die from hypoglycemia. Tomorrow may be too late. If it was my pup, I would take her to the vet tonight.

Among other things....it could be also distemper.....If it just started...it may be dead in the morning. I had one many , many, many years ago that died after the same type of symptoms....she died overnight.
