Is it an inherent condescending arrogance that comes with the faith or what?

2007-01-21 15:06:39 · update #1

This is an untrue accusation as I am interested in all views but as an example of what I'm talking about here is one reply I recieved to a previous question about Yahoo R+S:

"Why do you care and does it really matter? If your not interested in a so called "Christian" perspective, why would you participate in a forum like this?"

Because they are so vain. Don't ask for a straight answer to a religious question from a devout christian , because chances are he doesn't know. Instead of answering, he will only recite bible quotes to you.

I believe that any religion that insists that it has all the answers and that all other religious sects are wrong is just hypocritical. The only religion which is true to itself and its members is one that not only seeks to be righteously at one with their higher power, but also embraces all other people irregardless of their religion. Before you can berate other peoples' religion, you must study them, understand them, and accept their right to their own beliefs (as long as those beliefs do no harm to others).

Wow! I was just about to ask this question! Thank you! I believe that christians truly are the most arrogant and ignorant ppl on the planet...that doesn't make them bad...just annoying and sometimes dangerous. They actually believe that all other faiths have no right to call themselves 'religions'. Yet there is ample proof that their religion is actually built upon much more ancient pagan mythologies. I have the research to back that up and have offered it many times....but have never gotten a single taker! Oh well, I'll just keep practicing my very real and ancient religion regardless. (unless they burn me at the stake again...LOL)

It's not that they think it only covers them, it's more that they want you to succumb to there ideals. In trying to achieve such a goal, they must seem to omitt any and ALL other possibilities.

In other words, if you do not believe in accord with their beliefs and understandings, you are falible and subject to failure. Not only will you fail, you absolutely cannot succeed! There is only one true GOD and one true understanding in their eyes, and if you see something different, or more, you must be delusional and in need of redemption.

It begs the question; "What is religion?", or "What is spirituality?'"
Do you have the market on corner? Well, not since the Roman times, and even then, and since then, questionability is and has been a viability.

Why do they think it only covers them? Because it is the only means of survival for them in their lives, and for their political futures; whether they believe or not. It is ALL they have and they will do what they must to insure that you feel remorse in denying them their desire and security!

Very much like ANY religion of the world!!!

Actually, there have been numerous questions posted by Christians asking the opinions of atheists to try to better understand them.
Still, even if the majority of questions asked or answered are by Christians (hypothetically, I have no idea) that doesn't mean that Christians think the religion and spirituality section only applys to Christians, but that we are simply the most active...again, hypothetically.

well not all "christians" think that.
but almost all "Christians" do.

People who call themselves "Christians" are usually spun about because they were challenged to achieve a very personal relationship with God .. and if that happens then their world can get very narrow.

When they have this experence .. You can hear it in their words that .. "God died for ME!" and they forget to add .. "and for everyone else too"

They also usually get spun around that since the Christian trinity is the only god in their Universe all the other comments about god are at best unwise and at worse demonic....

so that since they are in the in-croud they are saved and good.. the rest are on the outs.

they forget about their own parable of the good samaritan (one who was on the outs) whom was pretty obviously saved to some .. but still damnned in other's eyes.

Well that was only one person. I'm a Christian and I respect the views of others. I have not inherited any arrogance either.

Probably most people within this topic are from a Christian background and the majority of the people in this section are Christians who are interested in fellowshipping around this topic.

I don't know where you get that idea. Ever since I came here there are all kinds of questions and answers from a wide section of religions and denominations.

inherent condescending arrogance.

Actually we are just GOD's kids on our way home. You can come along if you like. The conviction you feel that you call condescending does not come from us. It comes from the Holy Spirit. We could actually care less what you do outside of your relationship with Jesus. We are not arrogant because we have done nothing more then believe in Jesus finished work on the cross.

I do not know. I petitioned yahoo several times to make a specific section for them, as it seems they are usually very disrespecting to the beliefs of others.
