Is it much more light, as in less harder, then it was in the 60s? Because I recently saw the movie Full Metal Jacket, and it looked really tough, I wouldn't be able to get through that at the age I am now (I'm a teenager).
So is it, easier? If so how much easier? I know there have been changes but I don't know what changes.

Basic Training (boot camp) is only as tough as you make it for yourself. The toughest part is the adjustment from civillian life to military life which isn't very hard at all as long as you do exactly as you are instructed by the drill instructors. They will get nose to nose with you and yell at you all the time, but, believe it or not, they are your best friends because their job is to train you to be the best that you can be, and the training that they give you will probably save your life someday. Obey their orders to the best of your ability, never quit, and you will do just fine. Lastly, get in good physical shape before you go to "boot". Remember that boot camp is only a couple of months long and once that is over the rest of your enlistment will be easier. Thank you for serving our country. Always be proud of yourself for what you are doing.
Best wishes,

I went through in 1980 when they could still yell at you , it was hard then, and i'm sure that its as hard physically now, but not as emotionally difficult, and you quickly adapt to the physical stuff. Also every branch of the military is different the hardest is marines, then army followed by navy and air force

It all depends on what type of military your looking at going into. I can say if you thinking about going into any of them you might want to look at getting into shape because your going to be doing allot of running and more push-ups than you could ever think of. And if you are going to join think about the time of the year summer wouldn't be such a good time because the heat can get to you and I can say between the heat and the young guys locking their legs they looked like toy soldiers falling one after the other. And that was just the Air force in Texas.

I went through boot camp about four years ago and it was tough but not as tough as back before the late 80's. I have talked to few who have joined the military now and it seems like its getting easier. they seem to think now that you dont have to be tough you have to be smart. me personally, I think its a combination of both and they should make it tougher. Only The Strong Survive. hoooah!

i'd be straightforward, boot camp isn't any funny tale notwithstanding that is conceivable for most human beings to bypass it. maximum human beings imagine that in case you run and exercising and raise, you'd be ok notwithstanding the hardest area is mentally passing it. The drill instructors will push you to them decrease, both bodily and mentally. notwithstanding I heard earlier I went with the help of it that they don't swear or hit you, that turned right into a lie because they swore each and every of the time and that i have been given punched and shoved some cases. yet they attempt this all of this for a reason: they are making waiting you for the most stressful of circumstances. they are making waiting you for wrestle. that is why there's a Marine Corps, to wrestle the country's battles and to win them.

It's the same, the tactics are different. For example, there is no such thing as the Old Corp. There is only boot camp. (and all the subsequent schools)
For proof of my statement, just take a look at what todays warriors are accomplishing.
You GO USA!!!!!!!!!!!!
edit
You bet it's tough!

Today's military is more safety mental and safety physical than ever, they train to work, fight, and live. Boot camp disciplines a new recruit to the level from private citizen to private soldier. with parents permission, Check out http://www.goarmy.com local recruiter or veteran for details.

If you're talking Marines...then it's the toughest!
But, all other services are different. Air Force being the easiest. I went through Navy Boot and to me it was sooooo easy. It's all mind games and paying attention to detail. However, when I went through I got about 3 hrs of sleep a night. Now, it is mandated that all recruits get 8 hrs of sleep per night!! So, in my opinion....THAT'S CAKE!!!

I went through USMC boot in the 90's. While it isn't quite like that anymore, they just have to be a little more discreet in what they do to you. As far as not being able to touch you, I beg to differ on that one as well. Like I said, they are just more discreet.

Today they can't touch you and there are all kinds of laws they have to abide by in regards to slander, name calling, etc, but they have perfected the psychological games. You go in with questions and if you come out, you come out with confidence.
