or do I need to use a pressing comb? I dont like getting perms. but in between those, I'd like to keep my hair looking nice. does anyone know if a flat iron would work the same way on black people's hair texture?

Depending on your hair texture stylists who do african-american textured hair typically use both a pressing comb & a flat iron particularly if you have very kinky or hard to straighten hair. But there is a product on the marke that's been around for some time Maxi-Glide..it's a flat iron with a comb attachment that straighten's pretty well. If money is an issue Beauty School do pretty good work for usually half the price of visiting a salon.

It does but Flat iron's does work better if you do have a relaxer but also depending on how thick your hair is after you use a pressing comb then try it it may work.

I have thin and wavy hair, when natural, fine texture, but a lot of it. I don't know if your hair is like mine, but straight irons didn't work for me because they don't get close enough to the root for my hair. So I have a wee bit of wave, then it's straight. Only the professional really thin one that they use at the salon work for me. And most people don't own those. The ones with no plastic on them at all that they sit on the heating element.

flat irons work
Chi is the best in my opinion. you can use chi flat irons on all different grades/textures of hair.

they both work but 2 get @ the root use a hot comb they work better as a whole

Absolutely. Just get a ceramic one, because if your hair is natural, it may need to get really hot to have an impact. My stylist uses one on me. I have a relaxer now, but before, he was able to get my hair so straight that it would last a week.

NO U CAN THATS WHAT I USE ON MY HAIR BUT IN BETWEEN PERMS U CAN WRAP YOUR HAIR TO HELP IT LAY DOWN BETTER AS WELL PLUS THAT WILL HELP IT GROW FASTER AND BETTER AND DEPENDING ON UR HAIR IF ITS REALLY THICK IT WILL STILL WORK BUT I HAVE REALLY FINE STRAIGHT HAIR AND ITS WORKS FINE ON MINE
