I've had a rash on my chest and back for close to a year now. It started out as small red blotches that would spread up my throat to my chin when I would get stressed out. Now it on my chest and top of back. It itches and wont go away. I went to the dr and he told it was caused by stress. He has given me some allergian rx and creams that have not worked at all. I lay in the tanning bed which helps with the itching but not the apperance. How can I fix this?

Hives are such a terrible suffering...I feel bad for you. I got a bout of hives that threw me into the hospital in 2004. No one knows why I got them either.

Have they done allergy testing? You might want to consider a dermatologist.

If it is caused by stress, would you consider talking to someone, like a member of the clergy or a psychologist? I have found that very helpful.

Ask your doctor to do a trial of steroids. Steroids eventually got mine to go away.

Be careful about itching. I still have scars from itching mine. Use a towel to rub it if it gets too bad.

Creams will not work, and I don't know why he even gave them to you!

Try an oatmeal bath for soothing comfort. It helps a little.

Benedryl is suppose to help, although I found little effect. Other anit-histimines can be of use too.

You need to find the underlying cause though, and address it. If it is stress, identify the source of your problem, and address it.

Hang in there, and know you'll be in my prayers. God Bless,
Chris

Chronic hives can come from other sources like a tooth infection or food allergy. Have your doctor investigate other causes. Ask a specialist in Allergy and Immunology. He/she may be able to help find the cause and treat your case of chronic hives.

First of all, don't lay in the tanning bed. It can toast your skin and heat makes hives worse.
