+ The Birth of the Church +

Jesus Christ assembled the Church with Peter as the rock upon which He would build his Church.

The descending of the Holy Spirit onto the Apostles on Pentecost was the actual start of the Church.

+ Catholic +

The Church has referred to itself as the “Catholic Church” at least since 107 AD, when the term appears in the Letter of St. Ignatius of Antioch to the Smyrnaeans:

Wherever the bishop appear, there let the multitude be; even as wherever Christ Jesus is, there is the Catholic Church.

All of this was long before the Council of Nicea and the Nicene Creed from 325 A.D. which states, "We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church."

+ Roman +

The term "Roman" Catholic is rather recent.

The new Anglican Church in England started using the term “Roman” in the 1500s as one of many ways of demeaning and demonizing Catholics.

Catholics accepted this late coming adjective without too much protest. Today “Catholic” and “Roman Catholic” are interchangeable terms. Both terms are even used in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The term “Roman” neither increases nor decreases the faith, hope and love of the Catholic Church.

+ With love in Christ.

It kind of depends whom you ask. Around the 3rd century, a bunch of bishops tried to consolidate Christian belief into a single doctrine, and that was called Catholicism. From that POV, the founder was probably the emperor Constantine, or the Bishop Irenaeus (double-check the spelling if you use that name). However, contemporary Catholics say Paul was the first Pope, and they, like most Christians, say that Jesus was the founder of Christianity, although other historians say that Jesus was a leader of a sect of Judaism, and the real founder of Christianity (and therefore Catholicism) is Paul.

The modern Roman Catholic Church as we know it came about as a result of The Refermation. Previous to that it was simply the only church.

But the question you're asking is one with out a straight forward answer. Historiclly there is no "founder" in the sense of "Bob founded the church in 1000" or something. Catholics will tell you Jesus, non catholics might tell you Paul of Tarsus, or Peter. Ether way, the problem becomes it became a religion natrually.

The Roman Emperor Constantine.

He converted to Christianity because it was a good political move. In an effort to make everyone happy he brought pagan beliefs tradition and practices into Christianity and the Catholic Church was born

The Roman Catholic Church or Catholic Church is the Christian Church in full communion with the Bishop of Rome, currently Pope Benedict XVI. It traces its origins and sees itself as the same Church founded by Jesus of Nazareth and maintained through Apostolic Succession from the Twelve Apostles.

Jesus Christ began the Roman Catholic religion. However, after Jesus' crucifixion, His followers had to practice the faith in secrecy or face being killed. When Emperor Constanitine came to power, he was the first Roman Emperor who bacme a Roman Catholic and put a stop to persecution of Christians.

The Church traces its institution to Jesus and the Twelve Apostles, and sees the bishops of the Church as the successors of the Apostles in general, and the Pope as the successor of Saint Peter, leader of the Apostles, in particular. i believe it started after the council of niccea, which constantine, emperor of the roman empire set up to form an organized denomination, inspired by Jesus Christ to be the truth.

so there wasn't really a founder, but without constantine the catholic church wouldn't be here.
