Now, it also said, he "knew his wife" and she conceived and had Enoch. Where in the heck did Cain's wife come from if Adam and Eve were the only ones there besides the recently deceased Abel? Was Eve Cain's mother and wife? So, that would make Eve his mom and wife and Enoch, her grandson and son at the same time. Can you please explain this to me? I asked the Catholic nun this once, and was banished from morning mass thereafter. No one seems to have a clear cut answer.
So, why was incest condoned then, but not now? Why didn't God just take more ribs out of Cain and Abel (to create their mates, like Adam), that would have been easier.
Has anyone ever pondered this as well? And, why did Genesis 1:27 did God create Male and Female, and then in Gen. 2:22 again, create woman out of man's ribs. That's two women. One out of dust (Lillith) and the other more submissive woman: Eve, from the rib of Adam. Anyone wonder why you never learned this in Sunday School?

Funny, Joe Cool, I was quoting Genesis. Genesis 4:16 KJVersion...maybe you were reading out of the Mormon Bible? I am aware of the Epic of Gilgamesh and have read it several times, however, you did not answer the question. Shame on you....that's what I was looking for, silly Rabbit. !!?!

Gee, Uncle Wayne, I am not disputing the Jewish race here, but the last time I read Genesis, it kinda talks about "History of Creation", of the Earth, Man, Plants, Animals, etc. Are you sure you aren't reading the "Cliff Notes" version on Genesis?!?:-0 Mayhaps, its time for you to dust off your B-i-b-l-e and r-e-a-d Genesis again? Genesis (king James version or The New Jerusalem Bible- which I prefer and recommend)...lets see: read Gen. 1:1 through Genesis 6. "thank you" and "come again".

Droppinish and Ray (?)-- Now, those are the answers I was looking for, not insulting, but educational and concise. You should advise the Catholic committee on how to answer questions like these..........!! Good answers!

CEM- thanks for the info....actually, Religious Studies is my area of study....if you did read the good book, did you'd know that when the Bible was compiled, much information was taken out? The original books were called the "Apocrapha" and written in Hebrew. There, as well as in "the Zohar", Talmud, and Torah, you will find many references to things not found in the Bible because the Bible was compiled around 300AD. Remember, these were Hebrew texts that were translated by monks, etc into Latin and later in 1611King James revised the "book". It would be good of you to read the above items, as well as The Dead Sea Scrolls and Enoch I,II, III. These are very contraversial and would impact Christianity greatly if disclosed in its entirety. I have experienced many religions, yet I take Jesus's advice to "question the spirit"-like He did with the Pharisees at an early age in the Temple. I ask for clarification because so much is taken out and misconstrued or taken out of context.

Genesis 4:17 says, "Cain lay with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch." Who was his wife? It is implied in the biblical text that Cain married one of his sisters. Several facts lead us to this conclusion.
First, it is clear that Adam and Eve had a number of children. Genesis 5:4 says, "After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters." Since Adam and Eve were the first man and woman, and since God had commanded them (and their descendants) to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28), it seems reasonable to conclude that Cain married one of his many sisters. It is also possible that he married a niece or even a grandniece.
One must keep in mind that in the early years of the human race there were no genetic defects that had yet developed as a result of the fall of man. By the time of Abraham, God had not yet declared this kind of marriage to be contrary to His will (see Genesis 20:12). Laws governing incest apparently did not become enacted until the time of Moses (Lev 18:7-17; 20:11,12,14,17,20,21). Hence, there was no prohibition regarding marrying a sister (or niece or grandniece) in the days of Cain.

It would seem that when people try and prove the Bible wrong, thy always ask where did Cain get his wife? We are not told how old Cain was when he went into the land of Nod but we do that Adam lived 930 years before he died. During that time he had many sons and daughters. Genesis 5: 4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters: Genesis 5: 5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. We also know that all people came from Adam because we all have a sin nature and we all die. Romans 5: 12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: Because we are all sinners, the Lord Jesus Christ had to become a man so He could die for our sins. Believe and trust in that and you to can have eternal life. 1 Corinthians 15: 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1 Corinthians 15: 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Sunday school? Most Bubba Preachers think that the Bible is a history of the world. -- Even your question reflects you think the same thing.

The Bible is a History of the Jewish blood line from Adam to Jesus. It does not even hint anything else. Proof: All the names in the Bible are Jewish names. You cannot trace your bloodlines back to Adam unless you are an orthodox Jew.

About your question: Isn't it obvious? Why limit yourself to the Jewish blood line, Jewish history in the "Bible"? Cain simply married (or whatever) with another blood line person, human, or hominid - other hominids that the Bible does not deny were there before, during, and after the Adam deal in the Garden of Eden.

There are 10 references in the Bible of Adam's descendents meeting, fighting, and co-mingling with persons ("other people") not from the Adam blood line.

If you read all of genisis you will see that it says Adam and Eve had Cain+Abel.. .and others. The reason "incest" was allowed was because there was noone else around to marry. The gene pool was not NEARLY as diluted as it is today. Incest became outlawed later on during Moses' time because they was plenty of other people around to marry and have kids with. Cain "knew" his wife= they had their honeymoon. The word "knew" there= sex. Genesis 1:27 talks about Adam first, So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created HIM: male and female He created THEM. God speaks of Adam in the singular him and then he speaks of the animals he just created before Adam in the plural as them. EX: I just made some playdough animals. I just made a playdough man. I created Adam in my image: and the others are male + female.

Cain had several sisters so he probably did commit incest. We don't know it could have been a cousin. Yeah its not pretty and I don't know excactly how to explain it. As for the bible talking about Eve's creation twice... well thats what its doing. In 1:27 he states Adam and Eve were created. He then goes on to tell the story in more detail.

I believe that Adam and Eve had many many children after being created. I believe that they had different boundaries before sin. Incest is sin. So if they hadn't fallen yet, there wouldn't be disease and such from sin.
I don't think anyone knows how long they were in the Garden of Eden before they fell.It may have been centuries. So why couldn't there have been many peoples at that point? When they left, everyone left.

God created Eve out of Adam's rib, taking a part of himself for her. We are a part of our husband, He is incomplete without his help mate. We are from the side, because we are equal in Christ.

Yawn... Adam and Eve lived to be over 900 years old... they could have had many thousands of children and many generations by the time Cain was born... yes it may have been incest but that wasn't a bad thing back then... they had a more pure gene pool... besides how else could they populate the earth???

It's really not that difficult to figure out.

Cain married his sister. There are two accounts of creation, one an overview, the second a more detailed description of the actual creation of Adam and Eve. There is nothing contradictory in either account.

Ashani,
I see that you have read the first book of the Bible but came away without knowledge. Being a Christian man for 50+ years now, this also means that I have read and studied the Word of God over and over. Let me share this with you.

The Father leads us to His Saviour Jesus Christ. We then accept Him or go on our way. If we accept Him, the Father encourages us to read His Word. His Word is Jesus Christ.

Approach the Word as if your Bible was Jesus Christ standing before you. Humble yourself before Him and ask Him to give you Wisdom and Knowledge of His Word through His Holy Spirit.

Now hold on to a steady rest for He is about to dump it on you in a big way. You see dear, once you are given the Keys to the Kingdom the door to understanding is opened by you.

You have the answers in front of you but you cannot see them because you have been listening to man's teachings and not the teachings of God.

God told you in chapter one of the Book of Genesis that He created men and women on the 6th day sent them off into the world. He created them as hunters and gave them knowledge to keep them alive. He told them to repopulate the earth.

He then rested on the 7th day. A thousand years have passed now, for one day with the Lord is as a thousand years and and a thousand years as one day. That's a whole lot of people on the earth now. Possibly Billions.

On the 8th day God makes man. A very special man. From this man will Jesus Chrsit come. We are now in chapter 2. There is no person in the story of the beginning called Lillith. She is man made through Satan to confuse you.

God then makes Adam to sleep and removes from him his DNA, the rib, and from it He God makes Wombman, woman. Let me now make this story short. A condensed version from this point.

Satan, in the role of the serpent has sex with Eve. She conceives through the seed of satan. She then has sex with her husband and conceives through Adam's seed. Cain and Able.

Cain later in life kills Able his twin brother and God marks Cain and he Cain enters the land of Nod. Lots of pretty women there. Cain marries and has many children. His off spring are alive today.

Want more of the truth. Follow the instructions given you in the Word of God><>

You never learned it Sunday School because what you wrote is bunk. There are 2 creation stories w/ different messages. If you want to know about the other people, read Genesis and you will note there is no claim of no other people. The Eden cycle is a theological treatise borrowed in large part from the Ugaritic Gilgamesh Epic.
