Atheists do not believe that their is ANY afterlife, good or bad. Yes, that means that some evil people get away with their crimes. Unfortunate, but I'm not going to believe in an afterlife just because I don't like the fact that some people don't get what they deserve. If you can PROVE that there is an afterlife, that is different, but don't expect us to accept it just from wishful thinking or some ideas of what would be just.
Have a nice day.

Some people choose not to believe in Heaven and Hell because if those places don't exist then they don't have to take accountability for their actions. Personally I don't believe they exist for a different reason. I believe we all live multiple lives, punctuated by short stays in a 'heavenly' place where we are cleansed of all the garbage from our physical life and all the important stuff is 'uploaded' to our super-conscious. I believe we are all subject to Karma and the laws of cause and effect, so even if we don't pay for our crimes in this life we will eventually.
Re-incarnation does seem to explain why someone bad can live all their lives without seemingly being punished. It's because they aren't in that life, but you wouldn't want to be them next time round...

After you die, you get punished?
Perhaps you didn't notice, but that doesn't make any sense at all. Once you're dead, it's WAY too late for punishment.
It also doesn't make any sense to say that "when God is out of the equation" there's no morals. Sure there are. Morality doesn't have anything to do with "God".

It almost seems like you can get away with anything, as long as you go to church- like the Evangelical approach, where you can commit all kinds of acts repeatedly and get away with it as long as you attend church every Sunday! If hell does not exist, I plan to change that for people like you when I die because of the selfish devious nature of these dirty people in the church who think they can just ruin peoples' lives in the name of Christianity! These people are so disgusting that they can even use their position in their churches to find others to scapegoat their own actions!

I don't believe in heaven or hell because I am not a Christian. The concept of torturing someone for committing an finite crime for all infinity is extremely unjust and immoral.

Punishment happens on earth when you get caught. When you die you are dead and cannot hurt anyone else. What is there to understand?

That is the whole point of Christianity. Jesus Christ has already taken our punishment for all the sins of humanity. That is what the cross was all about.
