It's not pleasant by any means, but it's not the worst pain you'll feel in your life, I'm sure. My first one (on the outside of my left calf) felt at the time like 1,000 fiery bees, my second (around my left wrist) felt like cat scratches, these of course are just comparisons, and it didn't feel exactly like anything other than a tattoo. As far as the person above with pus and stuff, your artist will suggest an ointment (it seems like everyone has one they prefer) if you use it and keep the area clean, you won't have a problem, infection is nasty in a tat. Be careful. Enjoy.

It all depends on several factors - where the tattoo is being put, how good the tattoo artist that's doing it is, and how anxious you are about the tattoo and the pain.
First off - the fleshier (flabbier) a part of your body, the less painful. The bonier, the more painful ie: your ribs hurt a lot more than your bum.
A good tattooist won't hurt as much, but all tattoos hurt - they're cutting your skin and introducing a foreign substance. It hurts.
Finally, the more anxious and worked up about it you are, the more it's going to hurt, like anticipating the pain of a needle rather than just turning your head and being distracted. It will hurt, but if you come to terms with that before you go, it will hurt less.

my first tattoo experience was okay. i got a tiny tattoo. it took like seriously 15 minutes so it really didn't hurt much at all.
i am now on my 6th tattoo and it is much larger than the first. i have had 11 1/2 hours of work done on it so far and am still probably 9 hours away from having it finished. it all hurts but try to distract yourself. bring a book if you are a reader or bring a friend to talk to you. good luck!

It depends alot on the proffesional doing your tat but mine only hurt for the first few seconds (not bad) then seemed kind of numb. They are addictive, have been thinking about another one..so must not hurt too bad! I was told that the more color in the tat the more pain and that the location of the tattoo was relative to the amount of pain.

It all depends on the person.
I've gotten three, one on my back, one on my shoulder, and one on my foot. The one on my back I fell asleep and everyone warned me it was going to hurt like crazy. Then the one on my shoulder, I had some tears because I was in a lot of pain, while some people say they felt nothing on their shoulder. On the foot, well I haven't met one person who said it was pleasant.
The more body fat you have on a certain area, the less it will hurt. But after the first "line" your natural pain endorphins kick in and it starts to hurt less. Just be clam, breath, and remember to eat something about an hour before. You can get sick if you haven't eat all day and then try to put your body through something like getting a tattoo.

It was an upscale tattoo place in the Dallas area and I had more fun just watching the people comining in there. It was a hoot. I have gone back to the same place to get 3 more since I had my first one. overall it was a very good experience and very entertaining.

mine wasn't too bad mine was on my back in the middle i thought it would hurt a lot worse but it wasn't that bad it actually kind of tickled. I was quite impressed with the man who did mine he was quick and did an amazing job. The pain levels vary from area to area if it is a more sensitive area it is going to hurt a bit more than if it is on a more tough spot. Good luck

they hurt. I don't care who you are, they hurt. And it does depend on where the tat is located, how experienced the tattoer is, and your tollerance for pain.
they are worth it though. I have three. My first was at age 18 My last one was a few months back on the lower back (I guess it's called a tramp stamp) at age 38.
Go for it! Just be sure to follow the directions for after care.

When I got mine on my upper back, it didn`t hurt as much as I thought it would. I was really nervous too. You should eat and be in good health before you get it. I think it depends on your tolerance of pain, but it just feels like a cat scratching your back and won`t stop.

I got a tattoo, and it did hurt a little , but now I wish I hadn't done it and it's too late. It is there to stay. If you get one,get it where it doesn't show.Mine doesn't show, but I still wish I didn't have it.
