it is actually a semantical argument... in a sense yes... in a sense no...
actually, protestants can call Mary "mother of God" and it is a historical title... Mary is the mother of God... in a sense...not the usual sense of mother
Jesus is fully God and fully man... and they are a package... MAry is the mother of the fully human part of Jesus nature... but since the two natures are bound together now... in a sense it can be said Mary if the mother of God... in a sense
orthodox Protestants and orthodox Catholics agree that Jesus is fully God and fully man

Mary WAS the "bearer" of God.
Mary was NOT the "mother" of God.
God is Eternal; no beginning and no end.
Therefore God did not and does not have a "mother".
Mary was the mother of Jesus.
Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Jesus is the coming Prince of Peace.
Mary is the human mother of the human Jesus.
Remember, Jesus had a DUAL nature.
Jesus was fully human AND fully God.
This Jesus, fully human and fully Deity, is Lord.
God had no mother.
God has no mother.

You're getting into some heavy duty theology here, which depends upon recognition of the Holy Trinity -- that God is in three persons. One of these is the Lord, also known as Jesus, and it is this person that Mary gave birth to. Obviously she didn't give birth to God, but God and Lord are not interchangeable. Theologically, they are recognized as different personages.

Protestants think Mary is the mother of God. I have no idea who told you differently. They differ from Catholics because they do not think Mary can intercede to Jesus on the behalf of a human, and they (mainly) do not consider Mary a saint.

Protestants do not think that Mary was the mother of God, but she was the mother of Jesus.
Jesus was, like, God's son.
There are lots more confusing things in the Bible than this...

and Elizabeth was filled with holy spirit, 42Â and she called out with a loud cry and said: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43Â So how is it that this [privilege] is mine, to have the mother of my Lord come to me? 44Â For, look! as the sound of your greeting fell upon my ears, the infant in my womb leaped with great gladness. 45Â Happy too is she that believed, because there will be a complete performance of those things spoken to her from Jehovah.”
Jesus Gods son is the Lord spoken of here. she had Jehovah's holy spirit come upon her to utter these words for our benefit today

Jesus. God is a trinity. For Mary to be the mother of God she would have to be the mother of all three. I guess you could call her the mother of part of God. But she really was only the mother of His humanity, not His deity. She did not transmit any "God" attributes to Christ.

LOL. She is speaking of Jesus Christ.
Who is Jesus speaking of when he says.
Mar 3:32 And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.
Mar 3:33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?
Mar 3:34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
Mar 3:35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
Mary is indeed the Mother of Jesus. Mary is not Deity. Mary is blessed among women. Mary is not a mediator between GOD and man. If you love Jesus and believe in his finished work on the cross you are Jesus sister and mother and daughter. Amen.

The pre-born Messiah, of course. The Incarnate One. Of Whom Elizabeth's own son said: "Behold the Lamb of God, behold Him that taketh away the sins of the world!"
