If you are truly flat footed you need special footwear or your feet won't withstand the punishment of basic training. Plus wearing boots all deay everyday is tough enough.
Keep in mind this means you were diagnosed by a real doctor as being flat footed. Not uncle Fred who thinks you walk like a duck, and your feet look flat to him.

Service in the Army, particularly infantry troops requires frequent marching, or standing for extended periods of time. Being flat footed can make these activities painful/unbearable over time. And could lead to foot injuries resulting in troop members who might be a liability to the troop & themselves.

They don't want to deal with you. They'd rather take people that can take physical uncomfort. I'm sure they can waiver it if you're not completely flat footed.

Took me in the Navy and didn't really care. Also did Shore Patrol in PI and San Diego and they didn't care there either. Depends upon the branch.
