Best egg cream - in Alphabet City on Avenue A and East 7th Street , about four stores north of the corner, across the street from Tompkins Square Park , there is a small candy store with newspapers outside. There are signs outside for different flavors of egg creams and ices. They make the BEST egg creams and they cost about $1.25 (some diners charge $3.00).
Another place that serves excellent egg creams is uptown - Tom's Restaurant on Broadway and 112th Street. This is the restaurant whose outside facade was used as Monk's Coffeeshop on Seinfeld. The food is very mediocre (I'm being kind), but they make a delicious egg cream.
My favorite bagels are Kossar's on the Lower East Side on Grand and Essex Streets and Murray's Bagels in Greenwich Village on Sixth Avenue and 13th Street - great bagels and fabulous cream cheese.
And while you're here, be sure to go to Katz's Deli on Houston Street on the Lower East Side. You'll not only get the best corned beef or pastrami ever, you'll get a real taste of New York.

For a great Egg Cream, go to St. Mark's Place and 2nd Avenue. It's a corner candy/magazine store that still serves egg creams of all flavors. It isn't one of these new, overpriced specialty candy stores that has them owned by yuppies. It's legit and the egg creams are good. One of the last few remaining places in Manhattan that has been serving egg creams for years.

Best bagels in NYC is H & H Bagels -- there are two locations, one in Hell's Kitchen and one on the UWS. (It's where Seinfeld goes!)
