I took her in to the dentist and they gave her amoxicillan 500 mg and made her an appointment in another month. My question is will she be ok waiting a month for treatment. The abscess doesn't look like its getting any better and i've heard it can lead to more problems.

Treating abscessed baby teeth has a poor success rate.
Giving an 8yo (25kg?) a prescription for 500mg of amoxycillin is part of the reason we have increasing problems of bacterial resistance, and it's not sensible dentistry. I also wouldn't be surprised if your child gets GIT upsets.
There is no reason to wait for the infection to subside - if it does! - except for the convenience of the dentist. Ring around to see if you can have someone remove it ASAP, then consider if a space maintainer is necessary. Of course, the reason for the decay should also be addressed.

Once the initial infection has cleared odds are it will wait because the infection is unlikely to flair to it's current proportions in that amount of time. (My 3 year old had a similar wait and experience and it all went fine.) However, my dentist did tell me that if after the antibiotics my daughter was complaining of pain and/or the abscess had not reduced in size to call the office. This didn't happen, but I thought you could use the information.

Yes she needs to wait before the second appointment as they need to get rid of the infection first. If you don't feel like the antibiotic is doing the job call your dentist in the morning and talk to him about this.

well she will be fine until then if she takes all the Amoxicillan .Now if it still would bother her after she has taken all that I would call her dentist and explain that it is still hurting her.You can always rub some orajel on it for the time being to help with the pain.

in my experience amoxicillan is not a very effective antibiotic due to overuse, the dentist should have her come back when she finished the antibiotics, abseessed teeth can become very painful

An abcess is basically a zit...in the gums. its a puss pocket that forms in the root of the tooth. it can be painful, if left untreated it can get infected. If it does not resolve, most likely it will need to be lanced. I did that to my mothers and it away. If its bothering her that much I would get it lanced.
