I take a daily multivitamin, but I recently bought a hair and nail formula as well. I have heard that if you take too much of certain vitamins it could be bad for you.

The ones that overlap are vitamins c,e,thiamin, riboflavin and folic acid.

You can take many thousands of mgs of C; however, anything more than 1,000 gets excreted.

Toxicity for E is above 1000 mgs.

Folic acid--According to the National Academy of Sciences, the daily intake of folic acid in adults should not exceed 1,000 mcg. More than that has no value, as like C, since it's water soluable, it gets excreted quickly.

Thiamin--not recommended to take more than 3 grams per day.

No known toxicity for riboflavin.

Try apple cider vinegar mixed with water 2 times per day. It has at least 93 different vitamins and minerals. Read up on apple cider vinegar. There are thousands of websites. I threw away all my so called pills. Now my hair and fingernails are long and strong. Really works.

Yes excessive use of vitamin can lead you to a condition called Vitaminosis. In your case what you have written is not over dose. You can take that much. For future always talk to nutritionist.

Why not just eat right and take a simple daily supplement to cover your bases?

There is rarely a benefit to taking too many supplements, and your hair should get what little it needs from your diet.
