There have been a few situations where I've cruised this site to get some ideas for coloring my hair offbeat colors (pink, blue, and turquoise being my favorites), and for every question there are at least 3 or 4 saying "eww, looks gross," "unnatural," "childish," or the like.

So...why?

I mean... to start with the "natural" argument, eyelids aren't meant to be blue, nor are nails meant to be "tropical sunrise," or [enter trendy color here], but no one argues with that.

And maybe it's teenagers who do it because they're at a phase where they know can get away with rebellion...WHY oh why do adults lose that spirit (employment issues aside...though my job LOVES my hair)?

I guess it just boils down to... like makeup, there are colors that nature did NOT give us which we HAVE the formula to give OURSELVES!

So why not applaud the couragious? Why shoot them down?

Or, us, rather. We're just doing what we like.

And for the record, no, yes, I understand, "you shouldn't care what others think." Please. It's never going to stop me, hehe. I'm really just curious.

And I'm 23, going on 24, for the record.
And, no sign of stopping the colors :)

people are stupid that's why! This is something that hurts my heart no matter the issue-why people are so close minded to something that is different than them. whether it be haircolor, peircings, skin color, religion, sex preferance....just because you don't look like that or have the same beliefs y knock someone else? I really think that a lot of people are scared-they wish they could walk around with pink hair! Let me tell ya though, if Paris Hilton, Mischa Barton, and Lindsay Lohan had purple hair tomorrow it may become a little more mainstream! Nothing is wrong with those girls-they are beautiful, I just think that too many people are looking to celebrities like this to see what's "the norm" I think teens with parents who are closed minded pass this on to their kids too. I've learned (by doing it) that if mom says no- your gonna go right out and do it anyway. (fortunately mom loves the haircolor and has 4 tats. and an eyebrow ring) so I guess these people teach their kids that crazy hair or tattoo's on people make them "freaks" and scare them into not doing this. when in actuality I think THE nicest people I have met are "these people" because they accept you for who you are-even if you have blonde hair and a peachy complexion. ooh goodness trust me I could ramble about this for hours-I hope I helped answer your question....I'm a hairstylist so my job allows for this so I plan on rockin the crazyness well into my retirement years : )

I don't think think hair color is as important as the person whos wearing the specific color. I have seen some very "out there" and weird stuff but on the right people it just works and some people are more comfortable being dif and not fitting into the "norm". So if it makes you happy go for it! Wouldnt the world being ssooo boring if we all just wanted to be the same?!

It depends on your age group. If you are under 20 - you can get away with anything. If you are in college, then people expect you to start acting a bit more mature. And if you are over 25 and not working in Hollywood, then people expect normal hair colors. I was a bleached blonde when I first started my business as a bank and finance consultant, but had to go back to my natural brunette color if I wanted to sit in boardrooms with all the high-powered men. (And blonde is a normal hair color for some people!) The moral of the story - if you want to get ahead in life then you have to play the game of life by the right rules, otherwise you will never get ahead or win the game. So be funky while you are young - but when it is time to grow up - then put away foolish and/or childish things and grow up and play the game to win.

People are so intrigued by the unknown or in this case unnatural, but they would much rather stare or or give weird side glances than than just get over it and move on. It's stupid but everyone has their own opinion and are entitled to it ....especially about looks. Live with it and dye happy!

My hair is at the instant my organic ash brown (which it continues to be all 365 days around, yet interior the summertime I do get some blondish spots), with some darkish blue and eco-friendly streaks, and my eyes are hazel.

because in a really open minded world. still one thing rings true this is a conservative USA, remember its not been that long since the 50's when women wore dresses. the men in this country do not want to see women with pink hair it would just be embarrasing for them to walk along side of you not all of them obviously but a majority and its not in your favor. women who take care of themselves look natually beautiful and care what people think will win out for now. it boils down to party girls like you will be perceived, is ok for the night but not for a lifetime. this look is something you just don't take home to mom.
