So that people who became aware of this seeming peril would turn to Him in prayer, that's why. As you can see, our gracious Creator has so far kept the earth and humanity intact as He will until it's time for the re-creation to occur.

(2 Peter 3:3-13)
Knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, "Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation."

For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed. Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Yes. Without the fall, there would be no free will. What is the point of creating a universe where everyone is bound to either love or hate you with no ability to choose for themselves? All you get in that scheme are angels and demons, which are boring, and which God already had anyway.

Why don't you ask Him, especially if you're worried about dying?

Eventually there will be a new heaven and Earth. Perhaps the next big near-Earth asteroid, Apophys, will cause some destruction - I don't know. The important thing is to be prepared. I challenge you to examine the evidence for biblical truth (prophecies, manuscript evidence, archeological evidence, statistical evidence) and always be prepared to meet the Creator of our universe.

I am glad to see that you believe that God did in fact design the universe. Fear not - all shall continue as it is until Christ returns.

Even if an asteroid of some size crashes to the earth, (1) it will not destroy the earth, (2) God will allow it to destroy what it does.

I doubt that God has intensions of allowing an asteroid of any size to impact the earth. He intelligently designed it that way.

You may not have to wait for an asteroid. You might die tomorrow. Perhaps you will choke on a piece of food, or get hit by a car, or contract some fatal disease. If you are going to ask such questions, please enlarge your parameters. You will die. It's good that you consider why this must be - for there are answers. God can give you answers, but I highly recommend you give Him the respect He deserves.

Oh come on where is your sense of adventure. What did you want God to put you in Willy Wonka Land, you could be a little OOPA,LOOMPA. God just wants the atheists to have fun with the asteroids.

He put the Big brother Jupiter to protect the tiny planet Earth.
The gravity force of Jupiter is like a vacuum cleaner.

God is so much more than an intelligent designer. That is one reason we are to have faith. If you accept Christ as your Savior, you will go to heaven. If we are not all knowing when we get there, you can ask Him. "Trust in the lord with all thy heart and lean not to thy own understanding."

So we live knowing that it can all end with a crazy asteroid crushing on us and we apreciate every living moment and tell everyone around us that we love them...lol...
Honestly, do you really believe 'god' intelligently designed the universe?
Explosions happen all the time....hydrogen becames helium and we have stars....dust..... planets....things that fly around...

We need to trust he wont let that happen unless he knows he is done messin' around with us but, because his son died for even just one of us I think as long as there was a chance that just one of us would be saved he would withhold that kind of judgment
