Honestly, I'd suggest you cut it short. You can always grow it out again after boot camp. You are going to have so many hassles and stresses during that time, that anything you can do to make your life easier should be your top priority. Good luck to you.

I served proudly in the Army for 7 yrs and at no time was I ever asked or required to shave off my body hair. You will shave your face every day or you will do a lot of pushups for not doing it...your choice :). Relax! Your time in the Army will be wonderful, awful, exciting, dangerous at times, fun at times, but the least of your worries is shaving off your body hair. My advice to you is to learn well everything you are taught. Take each day one day at a time and get through that day as best you can. Get rest when you can, eat as well as you can. Keep a very positive attitude...there is life after boot camp. The more of a hard charger or gung ho you are will make you stand out from the other grunts and will result in leadership opportunities and make your life better while in boot camp. I went through a lot of training, served in elite forces, survived all of that (thanks to the grace of God) and I'm intact and healthy after all that. You can be too! You may or may not wind up in a combat zone so be optimistic that you might not wind up in harms way. But if you do, some don't come back, some come back missing body parts, but a lot of guys come back intact and that is what you should strive to do. My hat's off to you for serving ...make it a great experience while you're doing it.

HEY WELL, TO BE HONEST,I AM IN THE ARMY AND IVE ALWAYS WORN A BUN, EVEN WHEN I WENT THROUGH BASIC. IM SURE YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE A PONYTAIL IN THE NAVY EITHER..IF YOUR BUN ISNT GOING TO BE TIGHT ENOUGH, YOU MIGHT AS WELL KEEP IT SHORT, OR ABOVE YOUR COLLAR, BECAUSE ITS GOING TO BE ANNOYING HAVING TO PUT BOBBY PINS , FALLING OUT AND ALL THAT STUFF ALL THE TIME... BOTH WAYS HAS ITS UPS AND DOWNS. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO HAVE MUCH TIME TO BE FIXING YOUR HAIR ANYWAYS, SO HAVING SHORT HELPS TOO.. IF U HAVE ANY QUESTIONS YOU CAN TEXT ME OR EMAIL ME

I think you should cut it at this point. In basic they are a lot more picky about that stuff. The only draw back is, unless you get a boy cut (really short not shaved) it will be hard to keep it out of your eyes. You can always grow it out later to put up. Try going to a salon and look at a few pictures for ideas. You might find something that thins it out a little and be sort of wash and go. Good luck hun and thanks for volunteering! :o)

Military stantards i believe state the women hair should be in a bun if its below collar. you can have it down if its cut above the collar or neck i believe. but i found a link that has the standard for womans hair. its a navy rotc site, but its still the same standard.....good luck!!

you could try putting it in a ponytail with a rubberband and then pinning it up with bobby pins. But cutting it would probably be a better option. Less fuss.

Talk to your Recruiter. Last I heard, Navy won't allow ponytails or buns in Basic. If you don't cut it above your collar, they will. But double check. Keep this in mind, if they do cut it in Basic, they aren't exactly--uh, hem--"stylists."
Good luck!!

not a military waman, but I am in the Military and so is my wife. most girls cut it above the collar because you dont have much time in boot camp to do things like that. its just one thing that you wont have to worry about

Leave it alone, the navy will take care of it for you, along with anything else in your life that you have been used to making decisions about. Just do what you're told and you will be okay.
