Old Boy is right...I once read about a certain flavoring/preservative in vanilla ice cream that is also an ingredient in rat poisen....it's true but there is such a small amount it isn't actually going to kill you ....well at least not right away.

most of the artificial flavors and tastes added to icecream, candies, etc. are from the chemicals, which are injurious to health. Yet as the quantity of such chemicals is very small in icecream etc. there occurs no particular harm. It is however, established that the nutritional value of icecream, candies etc. is very very low, almost zeor in many cases.

I don't know for sure. But you can look on the ingredient listed on the back of the carton. Go to google and search the chemcial name. however, I'm sure that it is safe to eat, otherwise, you and I and all sorts of people would get seriously rich by sueing them.
