Haha, I'm 19 and I still love that stuff. (girl here)

No, most of the people who read/write slash seem to be teenage girls. Seriously.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you became so obsessed with it this consumed you. Do you think about it even when you're not reading it, constantly? Do these thoughts interfere with your day-to-day life? And have you been that obsessed for longer than a week?

If it's anything like that, worry. If not, you're probably just exploring. I don't think it's sick. I think two guys together is ******* hot!

I enjoy slash fiction, especially about the characters in that 90s tv show called Forever Knight--it's about vampires :)

Lots of women like reading about male/male sex.

However, I think you're a bit young to be reading about sex, no matter who is doing it in the story.

Do a Google search on the term "slash fiction." You will find thousands upon thousands of hits put up by similarly minded people, so yeah, it's pretty normal.

Also, as a young girl, you might find that the stereotypical subservient-female-role, marriage-and-babies angle of most romantic fiction marketed to women boring in the extreme. Men, especially gay men, can be as emotionally expressive as they want to be, yet are much freer in asserting themselves sexually and pursuing desirable partners. It's more "okay" for a gay man to go out and have sex for pleasure that it is for a straight woman to do the same. Additionally, it's probably a relief for a young woman to read a really hot sex scene in which there is no fear of unwanted pregnancy hanging over the proceedings. Between men, sex is a matter of pleasure and intimacy with a thrilling edge of male-dominance posturing now and then. It's a different dynamic than your typical male-female romance novel, and it can be very exciting when written well.

Plus, young women can be very competitive with female characters in books. They can get very up-in-arms if they think a female fictional character is too pretty, too talented, has too many advantages, or is too idealized to identify with. Oftentimes, they want to read a romance, but prefer if female characters are excluded entirely, which allows them to focus on the beautiful, sexy, interesting men in the story. Ask straight men why they like girl-on-girl porn, and oftentimes they'll say, because I don't want to look at some other guy's naked body, I just want to focus on the beautiful women. It's the same thing with women, only we tend to like to read our erotica rather than look at it.

In other words, don't worry about it - you're not a freak. A lot of women like slashfic, so just enjoy your reading. I think it's far better for a young woman to be reading about a sexy slash romance of equals than it is for her to be reading the usual "alpha male conquers subservient female=Twu Wuv" Silhouette/Harlequin romantic pap.

ETA: I say be glad she's just reading about sex, not actually doing it. A 12-year-old is probably starting puberty, it's not like she's a little child anymore. She's bound to be curious about sex at her age, and IMHO, the value of keeping children ignorant about a normal human bodily function like sex is debatable at best. I'd certainly rather a 12-year-old was reading erotica than watching movies like "Hostel" and "Descent." I can't stand our society's notion that shooting someone else in an entertainment is socially acceptable if it's over quickly and you don't see blood, but a depiction of someone making love with someone else, even if it's mutually pleasurable and both parties love each other automatically merits an R rating. It just seems backwards to me to deem violence wholesome, while sex is "dirty," especially since no one would even HAVE children without sex!
