It's against the Mormon religion, I know. I think in most other religions (Baptist, Methodist, etc.) it is too, but I'm not 100% positive. I'm also pretty sure it is for Jehovah's Witnesses too. They never really talked about that at those churches. According to a couple of people above me, it's against the Islam religion too.
Some people believe that it's only a sin if you drink excessively, and some believe it's okay as long as you're legal. As for my religion (Mormon), it is a sin either way. It is bad for you, and it ruins lives and alters your thinking. Plus it kills brain cells. We also don't smoke, take drugs, or drink caffeine because they're all bad for you too.
I hope this helped. God bless!

I'm Catholic, and I can tell you that I don't believe drinking booze necessarily would be a sin, unless you broke some of the ten commandments such as:
1.Using the Lord's name in vain because you were so drunk you couldn't see where you were going, tripped over something, stubbed your toe, and cursed.
2. Engaged in adultery while intoxicated, and to make matters worse, it was your neighbor's spouse.
3. Lied and said you could drive, when you really couldn't.
4. Stole a friend's car, drove drunk and killed someone.
Then I think you may have to answer to a higher source.

Different religions view this differently. Mormons forbid any substance that is addictive and for some that includes caffeine. Jehovah's Witnesses allow the consumption of alcohol in small quantities but forbid intoxication. Muslims forbid any substance that, in any quantity, can cause mental impairment. As for mainstream Christianity, I really don't know. There are differing views from from one church to the next.

It is a part of the Buddhist Eight-Fold Path to abstain from alcohol. Drinking is considered contrary to right mindfulness.

Islam, although some don't follow it. I know I'm definately guilty of using it as a way to forget something extremely traumatic, but it's extremely rare for me to do so. My ex would get drunk often. However, one can not confuse what the book says with what the idiots do. Myself included. :)
