I just got my third tattoo yesterday. I have been trying to follow my instructions from my artist but have found that when I appy the A&D ointment that my tattoo starts to burn and the skin around it turns red. I got online and looked up other care instructions but am very worried/ confused by these. My artist told me no Neosporin but I found where one site said that if you have reactions to A&D to use a cortisone cream. Has anyone had this problem and have you used cortisone cream on a fresh tattoo? I am just very worried about ruining my tattoo.

I had problems with the care also. I have 2 right now. The first one was in so much pain that anything that I put on it would burn severely and there was actually some problems with it. I found that even though they said not to put neosporin, I did and it felt better. The only thing is that the color fades a lot faster. The other one was fine though. I had no problems with it. I got it at a different place and they made their own ointment and had their own line of this stuff. So I think it just depends on the tattoo artist/shop. Try some neosporin if it feels better. Also, try not to put anything until it scabs up and then put some unscented lotion on it or even vasceline. Good luck and I hope it turns out the way you hoped. :)

don't use any soap at all. this is a common misconception. soap dries out your skin and produces thicker scabs which yield poor results. I have a back of the neck tattoo, and since it's kind of hard to see for yourself what's going on without a mirror, I just wore my hair up for a few days until it developed a scab. don't use compresses on a scab; this simply prolongs healing times and could potentially lift ink. different people's skin will heal differently- some may end up with a thick scab while doing everything right, and others won't. I always end up with a hefty crust despite vigilant care, and all my 6 tattoos look just great. i have beard that bacitracin is detrimental to tattoo health- try organic, virgin coconut oil; it's anti inflammatroy, anti fungal and anti viral properties help ward off infection while providing supreme moisture simultaneously. these are all methods that I have found to work most beneficially; even my oldest tattoo is very dark with crisp lines.

I have 3 tattoos and I used neosporin and vaseline
do not scratch them at all while scabbed do not pick the scab
keep the area very moisturized O.K.
I used neosporin and it worked great!!! I think it depends on the
Tatoo parlor you go too.

wash it with antibiotic soap, put soap in your hand and wash very gently. I have 10 tattoos and have always used neosporin without any trouble and without scabbing. So I have no idea why all of a sudden you can't use it. cortisone cream is for itching, so I don't get the connection there either.

Cortizone will work fine. You want to keep the tat moist so the scab can form and not peel off. If you're really concearned, call the shop and talk to someone there.

i would use the a&d untill you can get ahold of the shop. just for fun try calling the shop and leaving a message... someone may be there or they may call and check their messages... good luck!

also, maybe see if you can get it looked at by a doctor... you might be having an allergic reaction

just stop using the A+D my artist says to use it for three days. after that to just use a fragrance free lotion. i use cetaphyl. good luck! next time just use the lotion. your tattoo will do fine. i haven't used A+D for all of my tattoos, just a few and they are fine.
