I know this question has probably been asked a million times with vista coming out in a week or so, but i'm still going to ask. Also whats the deference between Upgrade and full editions? Recomended Editions

When Windows 95 came out, people went with it
When Windows 98 came out, people went with it
When Windows 2k came out, people went with it
When Windows XP came out, people went with it

The question is really pointless because eventually they will disontinue support for Windows XP and you will have to go with Vista anyway.

You are correct. There are the Pro and Con to Vista, as anything new. The links are PC World. First is where I found the next two links and there some other stuff on the first link too. Hope the links work, they should.
I should comment. Windows has life spans on their OS's. Usually it about 10 years. Win 98 lost support in 2006. Win 2000 lost live support in 2005 and has Download/Upgrade support until 2010. Win XP I not sure, but, probably be supported until 2013-2015. So, a person could get away using Win2000 or XP and when they lose all support go with what ever the new OS is at that time. You understand? I use 98SE on this computer and will until Internet not support it. I have 2000 on a Desktop it does well. Heck I may wait and buy "Windows 2010 Space Odyssey" Version. Ha!

i wouldnt get vista right now, there are still alot of programs out there that dont have the right drivers for vista so even if you can run vista alot of software is not compatible. vista probably wont be fully functional for another year or so. an upgrade just means you can upgrade from your current xp edition so it would be a full vista edition, the different levels of vista just have different bells and whistles, just think of like xphome and pro not that much difference but some people need pro.

The difference between the upgrade version and the full edition is presumably that the upgrade will not allow you to do a clean install, it will simply overwrite some XP files, keep your existing files intact and upgrade Windows XP to Vista... that can be... problematic at best.

I don't know that for sure but as of right now that seems to be the consensus. If you want to wipe your hard drive and start fresh then most likely you will have to buy the full version of some Vista edition.

Recommended, Home Premium as this includes the Aero Glass GUI, provided you have the graphics to support it, this will provide by far the best Vista experience. However, if you need remote desktop features, you will have to get the Ultimate Edition.

Vista is also more secure than XP both in its codebase and in it's security controls. It's firewall is vastly improved and most programs will require user authentication before they can run so even drive by programs CANNOT install without your explicit permission. Though... the UAC features in Vista require a password to delete things from the recycle bin to remove stuff from the desktop to run Add/Remove... so it's annoying for people who make changes to their system. It's one of the first things I will turn off. Novice home users... should leave it on.

Shawn... this is your last warning. We're all sick of you posting all that stuff, you can't even prove it. Prove it and I will be quiet. Don't prove it and I will continue this. I think we're all sick of it, you don't see anyone else doing that, do you?
