When your daughter goes dress shopping with her bridesmaids, you should go with them and wear something within the color scheme.
That's why my sister in law's mom did.

Have you tried shopping online? In the search box type in "mother of the bride" or "mother of the bride dresses" and see what results come up. A lot of the websites are informational only but there are some good online stores among those results. Check their return policy first before ordering or you can browse around for ideas and seeing what new styles are out there. Online stores are very current in their product offerings. A lot of the dresses seen in the bridal stores may have been there for a while and on top of that, "matronly" and "frumpy" looking.

My daughter was married this past October and I had the same problem. I went to Dillards the first week of July just to look again and found some beautiful dresses. I was pleasantly surprised. The dress I got was classy and elegant but not overdone. It had a jacket, which I wanted as you never know what the weather will be like in October. To top it all off they were on clearance. My dress was beautiful and very inexpensive. Good luck to you.

Get something more for a bridesmaid. My mom was so worried when I went with her to get a dress, she assumed I'd want her to wear what we called "the mom dress" like we've seen at so many other weddings. My mom is more hip & youthful dressing anyway, so she actually picked a very pretty dark brown silk dress. Very modern style bridesmaid dress basically. Feel free to browse other sections rather than just "mother of the bride" in the bridal stores.

try a simple a-line princess seamed gown. they're classc, elegant, and pretty much any body frame can pull of an a line dress! stay away from jackets!! most mob jackets i've seen do look very old fashioned and frumpy!! actually, you could get something very simialr to the bridesmaids dresses, but maybe in a diferent style. go with your daughter when they go shopping, and ask what they think of dresses. im sure they'd all be happy to help!

Go to Nordstrom and have them help you. Also, look on line and find dresses that you like print them out and bring them with you so you can give the sales person an idea what you are looking for.. Good luck and congrats.

Why is it that they think all MoB are OLD???
You didn't say whether you wanted long or short. And really, tastes vary, so. But I found a couple I like.

These are pretty sexy though they are listed as MoB dresses.
