If you get the written deposit back, you get it only because you paid that amount when you bought the can. So really in that case, you only get you money back.

If you just mean the price of the aluminum, it is currently around 0.90 per pound for aluminum cans. There are about 25 cans in a pound, so just the aluminum is around 3 1/2 cents.

If there isn't a specific amount written on the actual can (there should be), then you will get the going aluminum rate, which is about 2-3 cents per can. However, in some states and I think California is one of them, it should have printed on the can how much you will receive, usually between 5 and 10 cents.

aluminum is selling very high right now. In my area it's at $0.70 per pound. But a single can is probably only an 1/8th of a pound, so not very much. I usually take a few garbage bags full to recycling and make about $20.
