Jesus taught not only to love others as you love yourself, but to also love your enemies. Is there similar teachings in Islam?

In his Sermon on the Mount Jesus put Moses’ law into a broader perspective: “You have heard that it was said, ‘an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, do not resist one who is evil. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also; if anyone would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.” [Mt. 5:38-41]

“Islam, The Religion Of Peace”
The model world, according to Islam, is a world of peace. Islam in itself means a religion of peace.

There are many verses in the holy Quran and hadith, which emphasise on compassion. For instance, the Prophet said: "O people, be compassionate to others so that you may be granted compassion by God."

Once a person came to the Prophet and asked him, "O Prophet, give me an advice by which I may be able to manage all the affairs of my life." The Prophet replied: "Don't be angry. Even if people provoke you, don't lose temper and forgive those who make you angry. Adopt forgiveness as your behaviour."

"If any show patience and forgive, that truly would be an exercise of courageous will and resolution in the conduct of affairs." Qur'an: Sura 42:43 (Counsel)

Great question! I'll be back frequently to check their answers. I also would like to know.

Added: To Muslims: Jesus did not teach "eye for eye, tooth for tooth". He taught to forgive. If you are going to quote the Bible, you should do so accurately.

Jesus also taught and eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth did he not? That is what we believe in Islam we are peaceful and mind our own business but slap me and be prepared to slap back. Who is my enemy that i should love? Yes we are taught to love and respect ourselves to respect others.

yes, the prophet when he fought the battle of badr and won, all the followers started killing the captives and he immediately told them to stop and told them to let the captives go....after doing so the captives all converted... by the way the people who write all the negative things should take time to research the entire religion not just pick phrases out here and there.
