Or will some of them get into heaven just because they are so smart and amazing. They have spent years in study and have come up with their beleif system based on the facts, so there is no way that they can be wrong. But then they died, only to discover that they were wrong. Will God forgive them? After all, aren't good intentions worth something?

Intelligence has nothing to do with religion. In fact what
some academically inclined individuals cannot rationalize
basic concepts due to inability to faults that we all have
for eg. denial, lifestyle and family upbringing. These factors play a strong part on our thinking. As for your
question, according to the bible athiest are described
along with adulterers, idol worshipers and other sinners.
If you are an atheist, and I'm deriving this from the bible,
you do not believe in the word, so you wouldn't make
any attempt to follow the commandments or the scriptures.
You may be a law abiding citizen, philanthropist and
very charitible toward others, but these acts don't gain
you a place in heaven. The concept is you must have a
fundamental belief, and strive to follow the word even if
you sin, intentionally and unintentionally. Christians are
saved by the grace because they believe in the word
and strive to commitment. This is the main difference
between the saved and the unsaved according to scripture. So don't blame the christian community as
the so called "damning" you to hell. This is written and
they are basically quoting you biblical scriptures.

If ones` belief system doesn`t require you to confess your sins to God with a contrite heart and ask The Lord to save your soul from an eternal hell , then you will spend eternity in hell after your physical death here on earth !!! What man thinks or has an opinion about how to get into hell for all eternity means nothing after death , other than what God says` !! It`s what GODs` Word says` in The King James Holy Bible in The Revelation 21 : 8 .... But the fearful , and unbelieving , and the abomniable , and murders , and whoremongers , and sorcerers , and idolators , and all liars , shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone : which is the second death .. ( If you don`t beleive in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior , then there is only hell awaiting all unbelievers , period . )

There are many good people that don't believe in God.
There are many good people that may not even know about God.
Does your God send good and kindly people to Hell?
A true God would not judge you on your beliefs but on your deeds.

Why can't you people see that your RELIGIONS and the divisions which they create between people are MAN MADE?

The TRUE GOD does not require your religions or your beliefs. The True God requires you to live well and always try to do what's right. We all know, deep down, what 'right' is.

If a True God exists then Hitler is in heaven and he knows what he did wrong and has learnt his mistakes.

Sending people to Hell to 'burn for eternity' is the act of an evil barbarian. A cruelty not even man has been capable of yet we say that God would do such a thing.

Your priests invented the concept of heaven and hell to control your minds with fear. If we truly understood God there would be no religion and therefore no place for priests. They don't want that!

FREE YOUR MINDS!!!

Wow....as a christian your question makes me laugh. Not in a bad way. It's just you say you have had years of study and made your decisions based on facts, but there is no evidence of Heaven. Yet, your worried about it. I just wish people would study all the possibilities before they draw their conclusions. Not to say that I'm perfect(FAR from it). Christianity is basically about faith. Believing in what you can't physically see. It's believing what you see w/ your heart and in the difference God makes in your life once you've learned about His love. The bible says, in John, that...The only way to the Father(God/Heaven) is through the Son(Jesus). Your taught to love, believe and practice the ways of Jesus. That your deeds are not sufficient enough to get you in to Heaven. Jesus already died for your sins and the price has been paid. So basically, even if your the best/smartest/most amazing person on earth your still not perfect and you have to be perfect to be in a perfect place(Heaven). So God, in all his perfection and love for us, gave us a way to pay the price of perfection, Jesus. The answer to your question is unfortunately, Yes. If you do not have a relationship w/ God....If you deny him...... he will deny you. It's pretty black and white.

I think your question is a very valid one. Anyone who mocks it have been sheltered in their religion so long that they no longer can sympathize with the unbeliever who themselves were at one time or another.

There is no formula to get into heaven. There are no sacrements or good works or anything you can do to get there. It is a free gift from God so that everyone who humbles themselves, accepts, and says thank you will go.

God doesn't seek big headed people with big brains and full knowledge of science or theology. Knowledge is worthless unless you apply that knowledge to love and help others. When you get down to it, all you can do and all that makes any difference while you are on earth is to love others and seek love in others. Once you find the existence of love, you also will find the existence of God. God is love.

I don't know about my atheist brothers and sisters out there (peace y'all), but I don't plan on staying dead. When I'm near the end of my life, if I have the finances secured, I want to be placed in a cryogenic chamber and kept frozen until such time as science has progressed to the point where I can be revived and have my life extended via medical treatment.

If none of that is possible, I'll go into the ground and rot.

Oh yeah...There is no such thing as heaven or hell. There's only science and dirt. Take your pick, but ultimately it's up to whoever has power of attorney over your body.

Death is inevitable. The thief on the cross knew when his would occur, but we can not predict our own. After his death, the crucified criminal went to live in paradise with Jesus. Some of us will also live eternally in God's presence. But others will experience everlasting torment, forever separated from Him.
If we receive Jesus as our Savior, our penalty for sin is paid. We are adopted into God's family, and Heaven is our eternal home. If we reject Jesus, we remain alienated from the Lord and under condemnation for our sin. We are destined to experience eternal judgment. God won't accept any of man's excuses because there is no acceptable defense for unbelief. (Acts 4:12)

Yes, the science vs Christianity arguement never fails to amaze me and cause me to smile.
I believe that even atheists will go to heaven. They only need to ask forgiveness.
As far as being "smart and amazing", I don't think being atheist has anything to do with that, but rather the level of their education.

An atheist, my intellect and my conscience tell me there is no God, I've done the research hours into the origins of religion and I'm pretty satisfied I know how they occur and manage to get a foothold in populations and are passed down.

I was brought up in the Christian faith and I've studied Christianity and the Bible, I've read the Quran and I've studied Buddhism as well as the occult and in the end I find them all empty distractions.

Hell holds no fear for me as it is fictional like all the rest. I follow the age old pre-Christian Golden Rule "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" it is enough for anyone.

Good works do not get you into heaven. Only the ones who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ will enter heaven. It is a shame that someone who spent so much time doing good would throw their soul away in the end. It is a choice you make that gets you in heaven and in the end it is the choice of everlasting life with Jesus or an everlasting hell. Jesus won't force himself on you so if you don't choose him than you have made a choice to put your soul in everlasting hell.
