Well it seems like these days no one believes in spanking. There is a difference between spanking and abusing. The thing is most parents get really mad at a child and it becomes the later. I spanked my kids when they were little. I did some pretty mean things to them also, but the extreme measures I used I never had to use again. It's amazing how you can extinct a behavior. Discipline with love afterwards never hurt anyone. If a child knows they are loved it goes a long way. Most of the time, children want to please adults, so they do the right things. When they are loved. Seems to be what I have learned over the years.

YEP, I totally agree. Those kids need a good old fashioned spanking. Like this 9 year old girl. Her mom said to her "OK you have to be quite because i am making a phone call" the child waited until her mom dialed the number and started talking. Then the girl starts screaming bloody murder "NAAANAAAYAAAAYAAANAAA!" just so her mom couldn't make her call.
WOW, OMG if she were mine, her bare little bottom would be spending a good long time over my lap, and would most likely be glowing in the dark for the rest of the day.

I agree to a certain extent, but those kids are all messed up because their parents never enforced the rules earlier in their life. If they had been more strict, their kids would never have turned out that way. Really though, a child isn't just BORN a psycho-brat. If they can get away with it, I think they'll just get progressively worse as they grow up! They learn about what they can get away with and they kind of learn how to manipulate their parents. My best friend has a 4-yr old (nearly 5) and she is the most unruly, crazy, bratty, most insane little girl I have ever seen. And she is completely spoiled and her mother just screams at her and beats her butt. I believe attitude can run in genes, but this little girl was allowed to rot and ended up this way because of how she was raised. But I fully believe in a good @$$ whoopin' when they really get out of line, especially when they know darn well they're doing something that's wrong. I just can't wait until I have a baby of my own... I will try my hardest to enforce the rules!!!!!! And hopefully, if I am really good, my baby won't grow up to be a brat like I used to be hahahaaaa!!! But my parents admitted to spoiling me!!

Parenting starts from the beginning and they should not have to bring in the nanny!!lol...it is all from a behavioral psychology point of view. If you start teaching your kids the rules from early on then it would not be hard when they get older. IT is the parents' fault for not disciplining them at an earlier age. Then they would not have to punish them. They can also use incentive plans for their kids than punishment.

Actually, I don't agree with that. I think the problem with most of the children on the show is that they have gotten away with their behavior for far too long and their behavior is so extreme because they keep testing their boundaries. Had their parents cracked down on them (without spanking) when they were younger, perhaps they wouldn't be the way they are.

We've tried a lot of Nanny's tactics when disciplining or teaching our daughter things- and it works. The trick is though, to be consistent. If you're not consistent, then it's a lost cause.
