I have an 8 yr. old son who has expressed recently a great interest in joining, but I don't know what to tell him about age requirements.

Depending on how your school system is set up, JROTC is either 9th - 12th grade or 10th-12th grade.

His interest should be a good way to get him interested in reading and history untill he gets into high school.

If you know any veterans, ask them if they would let your son have one or some of thier ribbons ( then you can get your son to reserach what they are for.)

JROTC is a high school course kids can take. There are other activities like Civil Air Patrol, Young Marines, etc..., which are a club/group outside of educational institutions.

When he gets to high school. He can do something like Young Marines at his age now though.

look into it, but i think that is a high school age thing i had two boys in it and they did very well, the disciplin is outstanding. so encourage your child's interest
