I don't know if there would be anything wrong with it but I think there are too many Americans that won't even consider buying an American car/truck. Granted, Toyota is a good company and their cars and trucks are good but I believe the US companies have competitive products and don't get a fair shake. That's all, just consider them.

who's economy do you think you are supporting when you buy foreign?
It is not just a matter of "where" the vehicle is built. ....
Ford, for instance has production plants all over the world, as do other manufacturers.
But American auto manufacturers do MUCH more for US economy than I can even begin to list here,
I'll give you just a small sampling, here is an article from a recent Detroit area newspaper:
http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art...
But that is just the tip of the iceberg.
Think about the trade deficit.
Think of all the other affilliated manufacturers that supply to the American Auto manufacturers.
Ford & GM offer discounts to millions of employees of other companies that supply to them.as well.
Does Toyota?
If American auto's are so bad, why is it that 98% of all the emergency vehicles (police, fire dept, etc) are American?
Take a look at the Fleets of Taxi & Limo service vehicles.
Have you ever rented a U-Haul ?

As far as the "perception' of quality, Well Toyotas recent spike in recalls ( http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070119/AUTO01/701190358/1148/rss25 ) & defects is often explained as 'it's because they're having so much growth.

What bothers me is that it's considered Ok for them but when an American Manufacture has the same (problems/ratio due to mass production ), they are totally trashed by media & therefore quality 'perception' is diminished.
Also Toyota's recent loss of the class action suit re garding sludge goes back to vehicles built in 1997 !

Has America forgotten what our auto manufacturers contribute to this country? Or do they just not know?
Regardless of where a vehicle is assembled, who assembles it, or where the parts needed to assemble it come from, all profits go th the manufacturers Homeland.
Do Americans realize how many other U.S. companies supply parts & services to American owned auto companies.

The American Auto Industry affects the entire countrys economy & it affects each of us and our day to day lives in more ways than I can type here.
Ford & GM do more for the US economy than any other industry.
Chrysler used to be American owned, but after our tax money bailed them out of financial woes, they were bought by Daimler & are no longer (as far as I can see) part of the "Big 3"

Does anybody know who manufactured the vehicles (tanks, jeeps, B24 bomber aircraft) that led to Victory in WWII ? it was the "Big 3"

Does anybody remember what led the US to enter into that war? That would be the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
Who will build vehicles for us the next time we are attacked?

YES, Toyota is NOT the company that it used to be. And American Manufacturers HAVE improved their quality issues but still the "perception" is the opposite.

Just look at the new Ford Fusion vs the new Toyota Camry .
Fusion= defect free.....Camry= VERY problematic.
Oh NO, Do NOT take my word for it.! Look it up yourself with the National HighwayTraffic Safety Administration- Office of Defect Investigation... http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/proble...

07 Camry= 89 Formal Complaints -6 mos. production
06 & 07 Fusion= 12 complaints -18 mos. production & out selling Camry.

I am sorry for the long winded answer !
I can't help getting steamed at the misperceptions vs facts.

I prefer to support the economy of THIS country!
A Fusion built in Mexico & financed @ 0% interest through Ford Credit is better than a Camery built anywhere, when the profits go to Japan.

It is the demise of our ecomony......Toyota is Japanese....thus: 1) all profits go mack into the Japanese ecomony, 2) most production equipment manufacturers, and supplied components, and design go back to support the Japanese ecomomy, 3) one US owned Vehicle plant supports appox 10 fold jobs that support that plant.....like suppliers, equipment, medical, support of local public.

For every US Vehicle plant that shuts down.....allmost 10X more people in the ecomony are also losing their jobs.....even if you don't think you are affected.....you are.

Every heard of Henry Ford Medical and a myriad of other organizations? the Ford family donated more to help fund desease cures and support underpriveledged and build and protect museums for all of us to enjoy. Tell me where the Toyota support goes?....I don't know of any Toyota Cancer Research facility in the US?

Our standard of living will keep going down if we don't produce or manufacture anything in the US...........the Koreans and Chinese are next and will blow away Japan.........we are doomed as a country.....I fear for our children and susequent generations.
