I started taking Wellbutrin XL (150 mg) five days ago to help with depression and weight loss. But I am not positive my doctor had the best of knowledge about whether Wellbutrin XL or SR would be more likely to contribute to weight loss. So I want to find out which one is better in terms of weight loss goal, so that I can switch before my body gets used to the XL. Thanks!

oh wow ya'll are so quick and helpful. um i took Lexapro and occasionally xanax (only when needed) for a year and it caused me to gain 15 pounds, which did not help with my depression. So I gradually came off of it, didn't take anything for 4 months and now i'm starting Wellbutrin. i work out every day and watch what i eat. i realize Wellbutrin is not INTENDED for weight loss purposes, but I do know it is part of the off-label use. I just don't know whether the XL or the SR is better

XL is supposed to be the one that helps with weight loss, but it really depends upon why the weight was gained to begin with. Wellbutrin XL helps control obsessive or addictive behavior - doctors prescribe it for people who want to stop smoking as well. If you eat compulsively, then this may help you lose weight. If you don't eat that much anyway, but you have a low activity level or just make bad eating choices, it may not help you as much. Good luck.

you really need to go back to your doctor on that, cause they work different on each person. But you have only been on it for five days, and that is not time enough to tell if it is going to help you gain weight, or loss weight. So you are really getting worried about something that you have not given time to even work, you know they do not make mircle pills, or a mircle wand, so you have to be more patient and see if it is going to work. After all you doctor is the one that went to Medical school, and had to learn all that, plus keep up on all the medications as they come out, so if you don't think he is right, then go and see another doctor, but i think that you are worrying way to early and maybe that is why you gain weight, from worrying , so you eat. So go and see you doctor about this problem.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!
