It is my understanding that is a gift of the Holy Spirit, and that you can't force it. Please read this link http://www.tbm.org/tongues.htmd

The traditional answer would to be "filled with the Holy Spirit"...If you want to, I would ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit....but from what I understand, It is not actually speaking to God this way, but speaking messages to others that are from God...have I confused you yet?...my particular Christian religion believes that "speaking in tongues" means that a prophet can speak one language and all will understand it in their language....like when the two witnesses come back to the wailing wall in Jerusalem and witness to all the nations during the end times....but there are many different beliefs in this area...

Its not used any more. The Bible is very clear that it was a gift given so that Christian could speak to others who didn't speak their langage. Example: In act, Peter preached to a crowd of people, and everyone heard it in their own langage. Romans heard Latin, Greeks Greek, etc. They did not hear in gibberish. The view that the gift of tongues is the langauge of angels, is a twisted view of the Bible's teaching.
I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but this is what the Bible says. Not my pastor or favorite author. God. So thats all I need.

To speak in tongues is a gift from God. If you ask and believe and have God in your heart, He will bless you with this gift. This is not an "old" gift (as though there was such a thing concerning God), it is a gift just like the gift of healing, discernment of spirits, prophecy, etc. All of God's gifts exist TODAY and forever more. God is the same He does not change His gifts. 1Corinthians Chapter 12

I came to a point while studying Acts of the Apostles and after chapter 2, I asked others to lay hands on me for the gift of tongues. For me it didn't come right away, but later that evening.
I should add that you have complete control, the Holy Spirit is a "gentleman". Just praise God! Good question.

no longer the Holy language of God, yet various distinct languages of the international heard directly, at the same time as a guy purely spoke interior the presence of Jews from all parts of the international. on the prompt's an exception. The "tongues" spoken on the prompt are noted as glossolalia, and are purely babble, made to make human beings imagine that the speaker is stuffed with the Holy Ghost. the real signal of tongues ended interior the days of Paul, purely about 2000 years in the past.

No need to. He speaks your language.
These so called TV ministers are just about as fake as they come. They don't even have a base for their language, and all they do is gibberish.
If people wouldn't send these false people of God money, they would start singing the blues! Who are they trying to impress! I really would not want to be in their shoes come judgment day!

If you are a born again Christian and are knowledgeable about the Holy Spirit just talk to God and ask Him to bless you with this gift. It is for you if you believe. There is nothing you need to do but ask and receive the gift God has given you.

Acts 2:4 Or all of chapter 2
"And they were all filled (diffused throught their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues), as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression (in each tongue in appropriate words)."

Sorry, I know that pentecostal Church believe in this, but my denomination believes that is not for today. Christ gave it to his apostles to speak the gospel to others. I know this is a hot issue with some, but I just don't understand the need for it. God understands your English and the Holy Spirit, prays through you in your language and in your tears.

It is a made up idea; all logic would say the origenal language would be Hebrew if the Bible was true; the language is random babbling.
Here is proof: if it wasn't linguists would have analyzed it by now and found out how to interpret it.
